SUMMARY:  Sets up and operates a variety of manual machines such as radial drill presses, lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to machine metal workpieces such as, bits, patterns, machine tools, and die parts.
Follows company safety policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

• Sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to manufacture or repair metal components, mechanisms, tools, or machines.
• Determines dimensions and tolerances of parts to be machined, the sequence of operations, and the required machines by interpreting blueprints, sketches, damaged parts, or part descriptions.
• Plans and performs machining operations using manual milling machines and lathes.
• Learns the repair process and assists with brazing, grinding, finishing, sandblasting, material handling, troubleshooting, and repairing fixtures and machinery.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Performs other duties and participates in special projects as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Competencies (skills & abilities):

• efficiently select, set up, and operate various machine shop equipment to produce close-toleranced parts to specifications.
• consistently meet production and quality requirements.
• read and understand blueprints, specifications, sketches, production schedule, quality, and safety instructions.
• read inside and outside micrometers and other types of precision measuring equipment.
• identify parts needing to be machined after disassembly and/or by using sketches, drawings, and/or blueprints.
• assist in troubleshooting and making repairs to production fixtures and machinery.
• add, subtract, multiply, and divide simple numbers.
• comply with all applicable safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• ensure availability and good working condition of tools needed to complete the job.
• comprehend and communicate accurately, clearly, and concisely in English.

Education & Knowledge

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of a manufacturing work environment.  Journeyman certification/license preferred.  Forklift certification.
• Knowledge of a variety of metals and extensive knowledge of measurements.

Work Experience
Typically, 5 years of related experience.  Experience in a similar environment strongly preferred.  Experience in a lean manufacturing environment preferred.
