Description
About the role
Our Legal team is a close-knit group of talented and engaged legal professionals. Our in-house commercial lawyers combine their enthusiasm for law and interest in technology with their business acumen. You will join an inclusive, high-performing team that combines professional excellence with a warm, down-to-earth culture.
We advise across commercial contracts, consumer law, technology and AI, IP, privacy and data protection, financial services, disputes and employment law.
As a member of our in-house legal team, you’ll support MYOB’s Australian and New Zealand operations in many commercial law areas. You’ll simplify legal jargon to deliver practical results. You will do this as part of a team rather than as a sole adviser: matters are shared across our lawyers, and there is always someone more senior to sense check with.
What will keep you busy...
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to review, draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts
- Provide legal and regulatory advice on new products, services and customer-facing terms
- Identify and manage legal risk across privacy, data governance, cyber security, consumer and communications law
- Advise on the responsible development and use of AI within MYOB’s products and operations
- Resolve disputes and complaints pragmatically, balancing commercial outcomes with legal risk
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Technology, Marketing, Procurement, Risk, Compliance and Privacy, as well as senior leaders
- Leverage AI in legal practice while applying professional judgement, and continue developing expertise through ongoing learning and professional development opportunities
What we'd love to see from you...
- A law degree and a current practising certificate in Australia
- Around 4 years’ post-qualification experience or more
- Prior experience in one or more of these areas: commercial contracts, corporate advisory, technology, intellectual property, privacy, or consumer law
- Curiosity about AI and a willingness to learn. AI is part of everyday legal work here, and we will back you with strong training and support. Your attitude matters more to us than a proven AI track record
- Strong commercial acumen and excellent communication skills
- An appetite for cross-functional work, and for collaborating with a strong, cooperative legal team and our risk, compliance and procurement colleagues
