Description
Junior Data Scientist — TensorOps
TensorOps is looking for a Junior Data Scientist to join our team and work at the intersection of data, AI systems, and real-world business problems.
This is not a traditional data science role where most of your time is spent manually writing code from scratch. At TensorOps, we work extensively with AI coding agents and tools such as Claude Code and ChatGPT.
The important skill is not how fast you can type Python. It is whether you can understand the analysis, challenge the results, fix what is wrong, and go deep when something breaks.
What You’ll Do
As a Junior Data Scientist, you will:
-
Analyze data from AI systems in the context of real business problems.
-
Use AI coding agents to build analyses, data pipelines, transformations, and internal tools.
-
Understand and validate the code and analysis produced by AI tools rather than treating their output as a black box.
-
Debug incorrect results, fix code, investigate data issues, and deep dive into problems when automated approaches fail.
-
Define data schemas, processes, and ETL pipelines that turn raw information into reliable and usable datasets.
-
Work with structured and unstructured data to identify patterns, anomalies, and opportunities.
-
Evaluate whether an analysis actually answers the business question behind it.
-
Communicate findings clearly and turn technical analysis into practical recommendations.
-
Collaborate closely with engineering, product, business, and leadership teams.
-
Continuously experiment with new AI tools and develop better ways of working with coding agents.
How We Think About AI and Coding
We believe the way technical work is done is changing quickly.
You will use AI agents to generate a significant amount of code, but that does not remove the need for technical understanding. In many ways, it makes judgment even more important.
You should be able to:
-
Read and understand Python and SQL.
-
Understand what an analysis is doing and whether the methodology makes sense.
-
Recognize when results look suspicious or incorrect.
-
Debug generated code and data pipelines.
-
Trace problems through datasets, transformations, assumptions, and logic.
-
Take over manually when AI tools reach their limits.
-
Ask the right questions and guide AI agents toward better solutions.
We are looking for people who can use AI as leverage while still developing strong fundamentals.
Who We’re Looking For
This role can be a strong fit for people with backgrounds such as:
-
Data Science
-
Computer Science
-
Biotechnology / Bioinformatics
-
Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or other quantitative and scientific disciplines
You do not need years of industry experience.
We care about your ability to think analytically, learn quickly, communicate clearly, and take ownership of problems.
You should be comfortable with:
-
Python and SQL fundamentals.
-
Data analysis and quantitative reasoning.
-
Understanding datasets, schemas, and data transformations.
-
Working through ambiguous problems.
-
Investigating unexpected results rather than accepting them at face value.
-
Explaining technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical people.
Beyond Technical Skills
We are especially interested in people with strong communication skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.
We want people who:
-
Communicate clearly and confidently.
-
Enjoy working with customers, teammates, and business stakeholders.
-
Take ownership rather than waiting for perfectly defined tasks.
-
Are comfortable operating in ambiguity.
-
Look for opportunities to improve processes and create value.
-
Are curious about how technology connects to business outcomes.
-
Want to grow beyond being an individual contributor.
Over time, strong performers may grow into roles involving project ownership, customer leadership, team management, and broader business responsibility.
We are looking for people who are excited not only to become stronger data scientists, but potentially to become future managers and leaders within TensorOps.
Why TensorOps
At TensorOps, you will work directly with modern AI systems and learn how AI-native teams operate.
You will gain experience across data science, AI, analytics, data infrastructure, business problem solving, and customer communication.
You will have significant responsibility early in your career, exposure to challenging real-world problems, and the opportunity to grow as the company grows.
If you are analytical, curious, comfortable with technology, strong with people, and excited about building your career in an AI-native environment, we’d love to hear from you.
