Automation Engineer Intern

The Engineering function is responsible for all engineering activities within a firm to ensure that business objectives are met. Includes the creation, development, design and improvement of products, equipment, facilities, services, standards and procedures in all engineering fields.

Our Infrastructure organization is responsible for delivering cloud platform, endpoint technologies, monitoring capabilities, and operational tools that keep our business running securely and efficiently.

We're seeking 4 Interns to support our Infrastructure teams during Fall 2026.

What We're Looking For (Must)

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Graduation timeline between December 2026 and December 2027.
• Basic understanding of operating systems, networking, or cloud technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Curiosity and eagerness to learn new technologies.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.

What You'll Do

As an Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting enterprise technology while learning industry best practices from experienced professionals. You'll collaborate with engineers, participate in team meetings, contribute to technical projects, and develop practical skills in modern infrastructure and operations.

Interns will be placed in one of the following focus areas:

Cloud Operations Intern (1)

Support the team responsible for operating and maintaining Availity’s cloud infrastructure, with exposure to AWS operations, infrastructure lifecycle management, automation, patching, backup/restore readiness, and secure operational practices.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with day-to-day cloud infrastructure operations and support.
• Learning how CloudOps supports EKS infrastructure, EC2, OS builds, AMI updates, decommissioning, patching, enterprise storage, and backup/restore management.

• Helping monitor cloud resources and investigate operational issues, review cloud resource inventory, tagging, patching status, and operational documentation.
• Participating in automation, scripting, and Infrastructure as Code improvement efforts.
• Supporting runbook, checklist, and evidence documentation for operational and compliance needs.
• Partnering with engineers to maintain secure, scalable, reliable cloud environments.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

Platform Engineer Intern (1)

You will support the team responsible for managing gateway infrastructure which provides application integration for all services at Availity. This opportunity is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in application platform systems and middleware integration technologies.

Responsibilities may include:

• Contributing to the development, testing, and deployment of software enhancements for core platforms.
• Supporting middleware platform monitoring and observability efforts, including performance tracking and usage analysis.
• Participating in system enhancement proposals to improve reliability and performance.
• Shadowing engineers during software upgrades, patching, and performance tuning activities.
• Contributing to documentation efforts for system configurations, operational procedures, and integration points.
• Supporting change control procedures and deployment processes.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand workflows and dependencies.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Basic understanding of cloud environments (e.g., AWS) and infrastructure concepts.
    • Basic understanding of APIs and HTTP communications.
    • Familiarity with tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar is a plus.
    • Experience with Go programming and integration test automation is a plus
    • Interest in cloud IT operations, application platform systems administration, and middleware integration technologies.

Operations Center (Automation Engineer) (1 Intern)

Support the team responsible for developing tools and processes that improve operational excellence and incident management.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting in developing and enhancing tools used to manage infrastructure incidents.
• Learning operational workflows and incident response processes.
• Exploring the use of AI agents to improve operational efficiency and automation.
• Participating in testing, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborating with engineers to improve operational tooling and user experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

Endpoint Engineer Intern (1)

Support the team responsible for managing and securing thousands of enterprise endpoint devices.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assist with administration and support of Windows and macOS endpoint environments.
• Learn modern endpoint management practices using Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, and Jamf.
• Help troubleshoot endpoint-related issues and support incident resolution.
• Participate in device lifecycle management, software deployment, and security updates.
• Support initiatives that improve endpoint security, compliance, and user experience.

Video Camera Usage:

Availity fosters a collaborative and open culture where communication and engagement are central to our success.  As a remote first company, we are also camera-first and provide all associates with camera/video capability to simulate the office environment.
