Description

Leads the operation, maintenance, and reliability of electrical infrastructure, ensuring safe, continuous, and compliant performance of power systems in mission-critical environments. Oversees emergency power, preventive maintenance, and system upgrades to support uninterrupted operations and life safety.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee electrical utility distribution systems, including substations, switchgear, feeders, and related infrastructure.
  • Ensure reliability and performance of emergency power systems, including generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and UPS systems.
  • Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for all electrical systems.
  • Ensure uninterrupted operation of mission-critical infrastructure in environments such as hospitals, research labs, and higher education facilities.
  • Direct troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and response to electrical system failures and outages.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, DNV, and state regulations).
  • Manage electrical system capital projects, upgrades, and long-term infrastructure planning.
  • Supervise internal staff and external contractors supporting electrical operations.
  • Maintain accurate system documentation, including single-line diagrams and maintenance records.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and emergency response activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Consistently meet job expectations, adhere to policies, and deliver quality work while applying St. Jude values and principles. Managers evaluate employee performance throughout the year—specifically during the spring and fall Check-In milestones and the Annual Performance Review. All employees are encouraged to actively participate in these performance management processes.


Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred.


Minimum Experience:

  • 5 years of progressive experience in electrical systems management.
  • 2+ years of experience managing people as direct reports.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution, electrical safety standards, and infrastructure resilience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and contractors.
  • Experience supporting campus/facility-wide electrical distribution, including substations, switchgear, feeders, and load management.
  • Proficient in backup power systems—diesel/natural gas generators, paralleling switchgear, ATS, and UPS for critical loads.
  • Experience in high-availability environments such as healthcare facilities, research/life sciences labs, higher education campuses, and data centers.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), SCADA, or electrical monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge of commissioning practices and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
  • Familiarity with regulatory environments (e.g., healthcare compliance standards).


Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification preferred.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $104,000 - $186,160 per year for the role of Manager Electrical Systems Engineer.
