Job Description:

Parsons is looking for a talented Landscape Manager to join our team. In this role, you will manage horticultural, softscape, forestry, planting, and landscape establishment works across a major development program, with specific responsibility for protecting and enhancing heritage assets and cultural landscapes, and integrating landscape information within the project’s BIM environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Horticulture, Softscape and Landscape Establishment

• Manage horticultural, softscape, forestry, planting and landscape establishment activities across the project.

• Provide technical oversight on plant selection, tree species, nursery stock, soil preparation, planting methodology, irrigation requirements, fertilization, pruning, pest control and plant health.

• Review planting plans, landscape specifications, method statements, material submittals, inspection requests and contractor technical documentation.

• Monitor site works to ensure planting, tree works, soil works, irrigation interfaces and horticultural activities are delivered in line with approved designs, contract requirements and project quality standards.

• Inspect nursery stock, trees, palms, shrubs, groundcovers, turf and other plant materials to confirm quality, suitability and compliance before installation.

• Support tree management activities, including tree protection, relocation, replacement, establishment and long‑term maintenance planning.

Heritage and Cultural Landscape Management

• Conserve the topography and open spaces within heritage zones and associated cultural landscapes so that their character, identity and image are preserved for future generations.

• Safeguard architectural heritage interrelated with the cultural landscape by ensuring that landscape and open‑space works respect and foster the special character and heritage of the region.

• Ensure that heritage‑related landscape works comply with the Client sustainability program, Saudi heritage legislation and applicable UNESCO and ICOMOS conservation guidelines.

• Enhance the relationship between people and heritage places by creating landscape connections that respect and support heritage buildings, cultural landscapes and their settings.

• In heritage zones, review and support the design of new landscape and open‑space developments so they are located, designed and scaled to avoid any detrimental impact on existing heritage, cultural landscapes or their visual setting.

• Complement the existing heritage and cultural landscape through the design and implementation of new landscape works.

• Reinforce the historic urban fabric, settlement typologies and open‑space network through landscape design and development.

• Respect and plan for the inclusion of heritage sites in future phases of the overall development when coordinating landscape works.

• Support Client and the design consultants and contractors in preparing and implementing the project Design Brief for heritage‑related landscape works, ensuring that conservation principles and criteria are clearly defined and followed.

• Apply the project’s conservation principles to landscape interventions, ensuring that:

  • Conservation is approached cautiously when changing existing buildings and related landscapes.

  • Traditional setting, aesthetic and historic value are preserved.

  • Modern techniques are only used when necessary and are compatible with traditional materials, with interventions designed to be reversible where practicable.

  • Additions do not detract from significant parts of the heritage asset or unbalance the overall composition.

  • Each intervention is based on a clear understanding of the causes of damage and decay.

  • An incremental approach is followed, starting with a minimum level of intervention and allowing for subsequent supplementary measures if required.

  • Interventions are easily removable without damaging original structures or landscapes, reducing the risk of uncontrolled disorder following intervention.

  • Materials used in restoration and landscape works are as similar as possible to original materials from structural, functional and aesthetic points of view.

  • Authenticity and integrity of heritage landscapes are maintained to ensure long‑term access to cultural heritage richness.

BIM Management and Digital Coordination (Landscape)

• Represent the landscape discipline within the project BIM process to ensure that landscape information is fully included in BIM models used for coordination of geographical, architectural, civil, structural, infrastructure, utility services, landscape and specialist constructions.

• Coordinate with the PMC BIM team, design consultants and contractors so that landscape BIM models are developed, indexed and maintained in accordance with the approved WBS codification, required LOD and the BIM Execution Plan.

• Support the development and upkeep of landscape BIM models throughout the design process, and the transfer of the resulting models for use during procurement and construction.

• Contribute to QA/QC of modelled landscape information to ensure data integrity, correct codification and alignment with project documentation.

• Participate in BIM coordination meetings, using BIM tools to identify and help resolve clashes and interfaces involving landscape works.

• Support sustainability evaluation and other project analyses that depend on coordinated landscape BIM data.

Coordination, Reporting and Compliance

• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, supervision teams, BIM coordinators, heritage specialists, client representatives and relevant authorities to resolve horticultural, forestry, heritage‑landscape and BIM‑related issues.

• Prepare technical reports, conservation and heritage‑landscape inputs, progress updates, site observations and recommendations for senior project leadership.

• Support the development and implementation of project procedures, guidelines and method statements for landscape works in heritage‑sensitive environments, including tree protection, heritage buffers and visual‑impact controls.

• Contribute landscape‑related input to project risk assessments, constraints identification and design/constructability reviews, particularly where works may affect heritage assets or cultural landscapes.

• Monitor contractor compliance with project quality, HSE, sustainability and heritage requirements in relation to landscape works, and follow up on corrective and preventive actions as required.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Forestry, Agriculture, Arboriculture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science or a related discipline.

• Minimum of 18 years of relevant experience in horticulture, forestry, softscape, planting, landscape establishment or landscape maintenance.

• Strong technical knowledge of plant health, tree management, soil science, irrigation requirements, nursery stock, pest control, fertilization, pruning and landscape establishment.

• Experience managing horticultural or forestry works on large‑scale public realm, parks, infrastructure, mixed‑use, urban development or open‑space projects.

• Ability to review planting plans, landscape drawings, specifications, method statements, material submittals and inspection requests.

• Understanding of heritage‑sensitive environments and the need to conserve topography, open spaces and cultural landscapes in line with defined conservation principles.

• Familiarity with BIM‑enabled project delivery and coordination of landscape information with other disciplines (awareness of LOD concepts, data integrity and codification).

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:

• Experience working in the GCC or Middle East region.

• Knowledge of arid climate planting, native and adaptive species, water‑efficient landscaping and sustainable horticultural practices.

• Experience with tree surveys, tree relocation, tree protection, forestry management or arboricultural assessments.

• Experience with nursery management, plant procurement and plant material inspections.

• Experience working on projects involving heritage assets, cultural landscapes or historic environments.

• Experience contributing landscape information to BIM models and participating in BIM coordination activities.

• Professional certification or membership in horticulture, forestry, arboriculture, agriculture, irrigation or a related discipline.

• Previous experience in a PMC, supervision consultant, contractor or client representative environment.
