Description
About Us:
Forage’s mission is to expand financial access for low-income families.
According to recent studies, the cost of groceries is the number-one financial stressor in America—even more stressful than housing, healthcare, and childcare. At Forage, we believe that it doesn’t have to be that way, and our mission is to help people put food on the table.
Our technology makes it easy for retailers like Albertsons and Dollar General to accept benefits like SNAP and WIC. Our free consumer app helps cost-conscious shoppers check their EBT balances, find savings, and earn rewards on everyday purchases. And we’re just getting started: we’re building new products every day that will help low-income families save on groceries and improve their financial health.
Our impact so far:
- Forage’s payments technology is used at over 100,000+ stores in all 50 states
- We’ve helped deliver tens of millions of grocery orders to low-income families
- Over the last year, we’ve grown payments volume by more than 13x
- Since its launch in 2025, the Forage App has been downloaded more than 100,000 times
- We recently raised our $40M Series B, bringing our total funding to over $75M

What We Are Looking For:
We’re seeking a full-stack engineer who thrives on taking a product or feature from idea to launch and owning the result. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of hands-on experience across the stack, backend languages and frameworks like Python and Django alongside modern frontend frameworks like React, and is comfortable moving between the two as the work demands. You care as much about whether something is the right thing to build as whether it’s built right, and you understand how to balance technical trade-offs against user needs and delivery timelines.
Beyond coding, we value engineers with strong communication, product judgment, and an ownership mindset. You should have experience partnering closely with product and design, leading large-scale projects end to end, and a track record of turning ambiguous user problems into clear, shippable specifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- 5+ years of experience, ideally across the stack
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners like product managers and solutions engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with some or all of the following:
- Backend: Python, Django, Go, REST APIs
- Frontend: TypeScript, React, HTML/CSS
- Infrastructure: AWS, cloud-native architectures
- Systems: Distributed systems, asynchronous processing, scalable APIs
- Data: Relational databases, data modeling, query optimization
- Engineering Practices: Automated testing, CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and modern development workflows
You don't need experience with every technology in our stack. We're most interested in engineers with strong fundamentals who are excited to work across the stack, learn quickly, and own meaningful products from end to end.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with product leaders and your team members to build features for our core partners
- Contribute to innovation related to the team’s mission of quality and scalability
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members on engineering best practices
- Serve on the on-call rotation to support high availability goals
