Description
CECO Environmental is seeking a highly experienced Enterprise Infrastructure Engineer / Enterprise Architect to support enterprise transformation, modernization, production operations, and integration initiatives across the organization. This contract-to-hire role requires a senior technology professional who can rapidly assess complex environments, operate independently, and provide both strategic architectural leadership and hands-on engineering expertise.
The successful candidate will bring broad experience across enterprise infrastructure, identity and access management, cloud platforms, networking, virtualization, automation, cybersecurity, and operational technologies. The role requires the ability to learn unfamiliar environments quickly, investigate undocumented systems, identify risks and dependencies, and develop practical, scalable solutions with limited supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Provide architectural leadership and hands-on engineering support for enterprise infrastructure, identity, cloud, networking, virtualization, backup, recovery, and production systems.
• Assess and reverse-engineer existing environments, including systems with incomplete or limited documentation, and establish accurate current-state architecture and dependency documentation.
• Develop future-state architecture, technical roadmaps, standards, and practical modernization plans aligned with business priorities and operational requirements.
• Lead or support infrastructure workstreams for mergers, acquisitions, integrations, divestitures, and other enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, constraints, and integration requirements; recommend scalable and supportable solutions.
• Design, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, MFA, Okta, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, VMware, Citrix, and related enterprise technologies.
• Support enterprise networking environments, including Meraki and Fortinet technologies, and collaborate with network and security teams on resilient and secure designs.
• Develop scripts and automation, primarily using PowerShell and related tools, to improve reliability, repeatability, operational efficiency, and control.
• Use Azure DevOps and related practices to manage infrastructure code, automation, documentation, work tracking, and deployment processes.
• Design and support enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities that align with business continuity objectives.
• Create and maintain architecture diagrams, technical design documents, operational procedures, implementation plans, and system documentation.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure, Security, Applications, Operations, business stakeholders, and external partners to gather requirements and deliver integrated technical solutions.
• Communicate complex technical topics clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences and provide recommendations, tradeoffs, assumptions, and implementation considerations.
• Provide production support and technical leadership during incidents, complex troubleshooting, migrations, and high-risk changes as needed.
• Maintain awareness of relevant technologies, vendor capabilities, architecture practices, security requirements, and emerging infrastructure trends.
Education & Experience
• 12+ years of progressive IT experience
• 5+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering, enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, or a comparable senior technical role.
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Required Technical Experience
• Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
• Multi-Factor Authentication and identity governance concepts.
• Okta identity and access management.
• VMware virtualization platforms and Citrix technologies.
• Microsoft Windows Server technologies.
• Microsoft 365 / Office 365 administration and architecture.
• Enterprise networking, including Meraki and Fortinet technologies.
• PowerShell and related scripting and automation technologies.
• Azure DevOps and infrastructure automation practices.
• Enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Enterprise infrastructure architecture, engineering, troubleshooting, and operational support.
Licensing or Certifications
• Relevant Microsoft, Azure, Microsoft 365, VMware, Citrix, networking, security, or enterprise architecture certifications are preferred.
• Equivalent demonstrated technical expertise and experience may be considered in place of certifications.
Competencies, Skills & Abilities
• Highly self-sufficient and capable of operating effectively with minimal onboarding or supervision.
• Investigative, analytical, and methodical problem solver who is comfortable working with incomplete information or limited documentation.
• Curious, adaptable, disciplined, and capable of independently learning unfamiliar technologies and environments.
• Able to balance strategic architecture responsibilities with significant hands-on engineering and production support requirements.
• Strong business acumen and ability to align technology decisions with business objectives, risk, cost, operational continuity, and long-term supportability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to varied audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, manage competing priorities, and drive results in complex and fast-paced environments.
• Effective collaborator across Infrastructure, Security, Applications, Operations, business teams, external partners, and M&A integration teams.
• Strong documentation, organization, time management, and stakeholder management skills.
Travel Requirements
• This position may require travel up to 10% of the time.
• International travel may be required.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This job operates primarily in a professional office and remote-work environment and routinely uses standard office and computer equipment. The role is largely sedentary; however, occasional hands-on work with computer, server, networking, or related infrastructure equipment may be required to support operational needs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions of the position.
