Key Accountabilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise virtualization environments (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V, or similar) as well as supporting Microsoft Azure-hosted virtual infrastructure.
- Provision, configure, and manage Windows Server and Linux virtual machines supporting production, test, and development workloads.
- Monitor infrastructure performance and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks across compute, and storage resources.
- Apply patches, security updates, and firmware upgrades to hypervisors, guest operating systems, and supporting hardware on a regular maintenance cadence.
- Administer core Windows Server services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, File/Print services) and standard Linux administration tasks (user management, cron, systemd, package management, shell scripting).
- Design and maintain backup, replication, and disaster recovery processes for virtualized workloads; participate in DR testing and documentation.
- Support and maintain storage systems (SAN/NAS) as they relate to virtualization infrastructure.
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, including system diagrams, standard operating procedures, and configuration standards.
- Respond to infrastructure incidents and provide timely troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Identify opportunities for automation of routine infrastructure tasks (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or similar tooling).
- Collaborate with security, networking, and application teams to ensure infrastructure meets compliance, availability, and performance requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend new tools, platforms, and practices to improve infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
- Other special projects and duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience administering enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, or equivalent).
- Solid working knowledge of both Windows Server and Linux server administration in a production environment.
- Experience with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized environments.
- Understanding of core networking concepts (VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, load balancing) as they apply to virtualized infrastructure.
- Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN/NAS, iSCSI, NFS) in a virtualized context.
- Experience with scripting or automation tools (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or similar) for infrastructure management.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document processes clearly for a distributed team.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure administration (e.g., virtual machines, storage, networking, and resource groups) sufficient to support hybrid on-premises/Azure infrastructure; deep or expert-level Azure architecture experience is not required for this role.
Preferences
- Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator, CompTIA Linux+/Server+, or RHCSA.
- Experience in a regulated industry (life sciences, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or similar) with awareness of compliance frameworks such as GxP, HIPAA, or SOX.
- Additional exposure to AWS and hybrid cloud/on-premises virtualization strategies.
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Zabbix, PRTG, Nagios, or similar).
- Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) as a complement to traditional VM infrastructure.

Salary: Starting at $69,700 adjusted according to the level of the role and the candidate’s relevant experience and/or education. Salary will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
