Bartender

The Bartender is responsible for providing friendly, efficient, and professional beverage service to guests attending concerts, sporting events, theatrical performances, banquets, and other events at Berglund Center. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and understand that the bartender plays an important role in the overall guest experience. The Bartender must be knowledgeable about beverage service, attentive to detail, committed to responsible alcohol service, and able to maintain a clean and organized work area while providing excellent customer service

This is a non-exempt position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
Provide friendly, professional, and efficient beverage service to guests. 
Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes and service standards. 
Verify guest identification and ensure all alcohol is served in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and Berglund Center policies. Practice responsible alcohol service and recognize when service should be refused or discontinued. 
Operate point-of-sale systems accurately and efficiently, including processing cash (occasionally), credit/debit cards, and other approved forms of payment. 
Accurately handle and maintain accountability for all transactions. 
Maintain appropriate inventory of beer, wine, liquor, mixers, garnishes, cups, ice, and other bar supplies. 
Restock bar areas before, during, and after events as needed. 
Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized bar and surrounding service area. 
Follow proper food and beverage safety, sanitation, and handling procedures. 
Check and maintain proper product temperatures and storage conditions. 
Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning, securing products, restocking, and preparing the bar for the next event. Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, security personnel, and other departments. 
Respond professionally to guest questions, concerns, and requests. 
Work efficiently during periods of high guest volume while maintaining accuracy and a positive attitude. 
Follow all Berglund Center policies and procedures, including safety, security, cash handling, and responsible alcohol service requirements. Assist with other Food & Beverage duties as assigned.Required Qualifications
Previous bartending, beverage service, restaurant, concessions, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred.
Must be of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages in accordance with Virginia law.
Knowledge of responsible alcohol service practices and applicable laws.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to accurately handle cash and operate a point-of-sale system.
Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high-volume environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Dependable, professional, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area.
Basic knowledge of food and beverage safety and sanitation practices preferred.

Schedule Requirements
Berglund Center operates on an event-driven schedule, including concerts, sporting events, theatrical performances, banquets, festivals, and other special events. This position requires flexibility and availability to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours based on the facility's event schedule. Hours may vary depending on the number, size, and timing of events.

Physical Requirements
The Bartender must be able to:
Stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequently reach, bend, stoop, and lift. Lift and carry beverage products, cases, boxes, and supplies as needed.
Push and pull carts and other equipment used in beverage operations.
Work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods, particularly during large events.
Safely navigate crowded guest areas and service spaces.

Work Environment
The Bartender works in a busy entertainment and sports facility serving large crowds during concerts, hockey games, theatre performances, banquets, and other events. The position requires frequent interaction with guests and coworkers and the ability to provide quick, courteous service during periods of high demand. Berglund Center Bartenders are an important part of the guest experience and are expected to represent the facility in a professional, welcoming, and responsible manner.
