About our Team

The TIO Architecture Team is the design and architecture function of Elsevier's Technology Infrastructure and Operations organization and is responsible for architectural design and consultancy across a multitude of Technology areas.  This includes our extensive cloud-based technology footprint, the user experience across the company (including our large developer community), as well as the central tooling and development platforms that enable the company to rapidly advance. The team is particularly strategically focussed on today's business need on various aspects of AI (both AI developer tooling and end user GenAI technologies).

 

About the Role

This Solution Architect role is an exciting opportunity to lead the design and evolution of Elsevier’s Operational Data Platform. You will work alongside an embedded engineering team to architect Snowflake-based data warehouse solutions and related systems, develop AI-enabled capabilities, and work with engineering, data, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant data platform capabilities that support strategic business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and design of Snowflake-based data warehouse solutions and dependent systems
• Develop next-generation platform capabilities, including real-time ingestion, AI-driven insights and API-led integration
• Design data structures and interfaces that enable natural-language querying and GenAI use cases
• Support the adoption of modern data-engineering methods and best-in-class tooling
• Integrate data toolchains with internal systems using API-driven approaches, including MCP
• Establish secure, standardised best practices across data warehousing, integration and AI tooling
• Define inter-system data flows, architectural roadmaps and governance standards
• Ensure solutions comply with Elsevier and RELX policies and standards
• Problem-solve, involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex system issues
• Drive technical direction and architecture evolution via reviews, roadmaps and on-floor leadership

 

Requirements

• Significant experience in software development, solution architecture or data-platform architecture
• Strong experience designing Snowflake data warehouse solutions and working across the Snowflake ecosystem
• Understanding of operational technology data, technology assets, dependencies, relationships and end-to-end flows within a large enterprise
• Solution architecture across Snowflake, DBT and SqlDBM, including data modelling and schema design
• AWS architecture, including EC2, RDS, databases, SQS, Kinesis, S3 and Lambda, plus familiarity with Azure
• Experience with real-time ingestion, streaming and processing technologies, API design, graph databases, and AI-enabled solutions including MCP
• Familiarity with Tableau, GitHub, Jira, CI/CD and Agile delivery
• Strong knowledge of architectural governance, requirements gathering and end-to-end data-flow design

• Strong organisational, project planning and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, complex projects and change initiatives across diverse teams.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, including identifying issues, assessing risks, developing solutions and coordinating resources to drive successful outcomes.
• Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise messaging for audiences ranging from engineers to senior executives.
