Overview

The Loan Operations SBG Loan Closing Team Lead serves as the lead employee within the Small Business Loan Closing function, combining advanced technical expertise with day-to-day team leadership responsibilities. This position performs the most complex loan closing activities while coordinating workflow, monitoring production and quality standards, and providing guidance, training, and coaching to team members. The Team Lead serves as the primary operational resource for the team, assists management with employee development and department initiatives, and helps ensure consistent application of procedures, service standards, and risk controls across the Small Business Loan Closing function.

What You’ll Do

Team Leadership and Workflow Coordination

  • Coordinate daily workflow and work assignments to support service-level expectations, operational efficiency, and balanced workloads across the team.
  • Monitor production volumes, pipeline status, turnaround times, and workload distribution and communicate resource needs or concerns to management.
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for routine operational, workflow, and customer service issues.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Loan Closing Specialists regarding procedures, system functionality, documentation requirements, and exception handling.
  • Facilitate team communication by sharing operational updates, procedural changes, and departmental priorities.
  • Reinforce adherence to department procedures, service standards, and quality expectations.

Employee Development and Quality Oversight

  • Provide onboarding support and ongoing training for new and existing team members.
  • Assist management in identifying employee development opportunities and addressing training needs.
  • Conduct quality reviews of completed work and provide coaching and feedback to promote accuracy and consistency.
  • Monitor quality trends and identify recurring issues, recommending corrective actions and training opportunities.
  • Assist with maintaining procedures, job aids, reference materials, and training documentation.
  • Support the development of a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused team environment.

Supervisory Support

  • Approve employee timecards, schedules, and vacation requests in accordance with department guidelines.
  • Provide performance feedback and participate in employee performance evaluations.
  • Assist with interviewing, onboarding, and selection activities for new hires.
  • Document employee coaching discussions and performance observations for management review.
  • Support implementation of performance improvement plans, corrective actions, and recognition programs under the direction of management.
  • Provide leadership coverage during temporary manager absences.

Operational Support and Process Improvement

  • Monitor workflow efficiency and recommend process improvements that enhance productivity, quality, accuracy, and customer service.
  • Identify operational risks, control gaps, or recurring issues and communicate findings to management.
  • Support implementation of process enhancements, procedural updates, system changes, and department initiatives.
  • Participate in testing, training, and rollout activities associated with new systems, products, and workflow changes.
  • Prepare and distribute periodic production, quality, and service-level reports for management review.

Compliance Training: Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.

Requirements For Success

  • Education: College Degree or equivalent required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of work experience in a financial institution with a focus on due diligence and/or loan documentation
  • Required Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of Small Business/Commercial Loan Closing, Document Preparation, and Document Review experience required, including knowledge of regulatory regulations.
    • Experience performing quality assurance reviews of various loan operation functions.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
    • Ability to identify trends, determine root causes, and develop practical recommendations for process, quality, system and control improvements.
    • Expert knowledge of common and complex vendor documents, including title work, automated valuations models, appraisals, environmental reports, flood determinations, insurance documentation, surveys and lien searches.
    • Demonstrated ability to coach others, transfer technical knowledge, and promote consistent application of policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate daily work activities and prioritize team workloads in a fast-paced operational environment.
    • Ability to coach, develop, and motivate employees while promoting accountability and teamwork.
    • Ability to monitor productivity and quality metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve routine employee, customer, and operational concerns.
    • Ability to lead through influence and foster collaboration across multiple business partners and operational teams.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, risk-assessment, decision-making, negotiation, organizational, and communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages employees and is responsible for the coaching, development, and performance management of those employees.

 

Working Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, and printers.

 

Position requires schedule flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

 

This position requires up to 10% travel.

Pay Range

USD $42,061.00 - USD $64,465.00 /Yr.
