Description
Cape Henry Collegiate’s Operations Department is seeking a dependable and skilled Senior Maintenance Technician to support the school’s mission and daily operations. This position provides hands-on, experienced support to the school’s facilities team. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining campus buildings and equipment, with a particular emphasis on electrical and plumbing systems.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 1:00pm -9:30pm. This is a Full-Time, 12-month position.
Occasional overtime or adjusted hours may be required for major school events, campus emergencies, or scheduled maintenance. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible.
Pay Range: $23-$28 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Position Duties (including, but are not limited to):
- Diagnose and complete commercial building repairs, with particular emphasis on electrical and plumbing systems.
- Troubleshoot lighting, switches, receptacles, breakers, fixtures, drains, toilets, faucets, valves, water heaters, and related building components within the employee’s qualifications and applicable code requirements.
- Perform general carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, ceiling, door, and hardware repairs.
- Prioritize, and complete work orders based on safety, operational urgency, event schedules, and campus needs. Use the electronic work order system to track work order progress.
- Work independently and remain productive by completing preventive maintenance and building inspections and identifying appropriate organization, campus-upkeep, and other proactive tasks.
- Support campus events through set-up and break-down, as well as furniture and equipment moves as needed.
- Secure assigned facilities and report safety, security, or building-system concerns.
- Safely use and maintain common hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment, selecting the appropriate tools and materials for assigned work.
- Maintain orderly work areas, shops, mechanical spaces, tools, and supplies.
- Follow established safety procedures and complete work in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and school requirements.

We seek an experienced, dependable, and accountable professional who takes pride in producing high-quality work. The ideal candidate works efficiently and independently, demonstrates sound technical judgment, and takes initiative in diagnosing and resolving maintenance issues, particularly those involving electrical and plumbing systems. They communicate courteously and professionally, use established processes - including the electronic work order system - and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment. This position reports to the Facilities and Grounds Manager and is an integral part of the Operations team. Education, Experience, and Physical Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least three years of commercial, institutional, multifamily, industrial, military, hospitality, or similarly complex building-maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
- Working knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and complete common building repairs safely.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, follow verbal and written instructions, and determine when work requires a licensed contractor.
- Ability to interpret work orders, production schedules, diagrams, and room layouts.
- Basic computer proficiency and experience using an electronic work-order system, or the ability to learn one, as well as email and other routine workplace applications.
- Ability to safely climb and work from step ladders, extension ladders, fixed vertical ladders, elevated work platforms, and scissor lifts.
- Ability to work safely at elevated locations, including flat roofs, while following applicable fall-protection and equipment-safety requirements.
- Ability to remain physically active throughout the workday, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and reaching, and to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, and move equipment, furniture, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the school’s required background and driving-record screenings.
- Electrical, plumbing, OSHA, or related trade training or certification preferred.
