Overview:
Serves as a member of the Management Development Program (MDP) and participates in ten weeks of Core Training and one year of On-the-Job training (OJT). Core Training responsibilities include participation in classroom training, observations of departmental presentations, interaction with senior management, peer networking, and working in teams on group project assignments. OJT responsibilities vary by department and are assigned by the department manager. The position may be responsible for additional projects assigned by the department manager or Leadership Development Manager.
Department Description:
The Wilmington Trust Institutional Services (IS) division is experiencing rapid business growth and has initiated a strategic digital transformation program. The goals of the program are to grow revenue through new and transformed digital-first trust and agency service products, to move from a product-centric to client-centric operating model, to move from market-specific to global solutions, and to dramatically lower the cost to serve.
Wilmington Trust is seeking a Forward Deployed Digital Product Analyst to join its Management Development Program and help accelerate digital transformation across core operations. This early-career role is designed for candidates interested in developing digital products, AI products, business transformation, or client-facing technology leaders.
This role is a hybrid between a junior product manager, business analyst, AI-enabled process analyst, and workflow designer. The role focuses on identifying operational problems, defining user needs, documenting requirements, testing solutions, and using agentic AI tools to rapidly analyze, prototype, and improve business workflows.
Ideal candidates are curious, analytical, hands-on, and comfortable working across business and technology teams. They should have exposure to digital product management concepts such as writing user stories or specifications, mapping process flows, creating simple UI designs or wireframes, testing software or workflows, or using AI tools to improve productivity and solution design.
Department Responsibilities:
- Help discover, design, test, and launch digital workflow solutions across Wilmington Trust Institutional Services.
- Sit down with business product owners, operations teams, technology partners, and senior product leaders to learn what is not working today and where automation could help.
- Turn what you hear into clear write-ups: user stories (short descriptions of what a user needs), acceptance criteria (the checklist that says when the work is done), process flows, and wireframes (simple screen sketches).
- Use agentic AI tools (AI that can carry out multi-step tasks for you) to analyze processes, draft documentation, generate test cases, and prototype workflows faster.
- Think through big, unclear problems in a structured way: break them into smaller pieces, get to the root cause, weigh the options, and recommend practical next steps.
- Join working sessions where the team maps how a process runs today versus how it should run, and shape early MVP ideas (a first, simple version of a solution).
- Build quick prototypes using enterprise tools, agentic AI tools, low-code or no-code platforms (build with little or no programming), and design collaboration tools.
- Partner with product owners and delivery teams to keep the backlog (the prioritized list of work) clear, current, and tied to business goals.
- Support QA, UAT (user acceptance testing, where real users confirm a solution works), and production checks by writing test scenarios, logging defects, and confirming fixes.
- Help define and track the numbers that show whether a solution is working, such as user adoption, cycle time, exception rates, and business impact.
- Work with technology partners to understand how systems connect and where data, system limits, or operational risks could get in the way.
- Learn and apply agile, lean, design thinking, process engineering, and product management practices on real transformation work.
- Keep up with new agentic AI capabilities, digital product tools, workflow automation practices, and responsible ways to use AI.
- Share what you find, including requirements, risks, test results, and recommendations, in language that business, product, and technology partners can act on.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Department Experience Required:
This role is built for junior candidates and anyone interested in a Management Development Program, and recent college graduates are encouraged to apply. Experience from internships, co-ops, capstones, campus consulting projects, fintech labs, digital product projects, or AI projects is welcome, but none of it is required to apply.
- A real interest in digital product management, business transformation, financial technology, AI-enabled operations, or workflow automation.
- Some exposure, through coursework, an internship, a class project, or a job, to product work such as writing user stories, documenting requirements, mapping processes, or sketching wireframes.
- Some hands-on time with agentic AI or AI-assisted tools, such as Open Claw, Hermes, Claude Code, or Codex, used to help plan, build, test, analyze, or automate work.
- Comfort taking an open-ended problem apart, working through the information, spotting patterns, and explaining what you’ve found.
- Some exposure to testing software: QA, UAT (having real users confirm a solution works), writing test cases, logging defects, or checking data.
- The ability to explain things clearly in writing and out loud, from requirements and processes flows to feedback, test results, and recommendations.
- A collaborative style that works well with business, products, operations, design, and technology partners.
- Curiosity about how AI, automation, and digital products can improve business processes, client experiences, and day-to-day operations.
- Attention to detail, good organization, strong follow-through, and a willingness to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Department Experience Preferred:
- An internship, co-op, project, or first job touching financial services, fintech, banking, wealth management, trust services, capital markets, payments, operations, risk, or compliance.
- Exposure to low-code or no-code workflow tools (platforms that let you build with little or no programming) such as Appian, Power Platform, ServiceNow, Salesforce, Pega, Airtable, Retool, or Mendix.
- Coursework or hands-on work in process mapping, workflow or service design, user journey mapping, or operational improvement.
- Any time spent building, configuring, testing, or documenting workflows and screens in Appian Designer - Appian Level 1 certification or similar exposure is a plus, not a must.
- A general sense of what Appian can do, such as process models, interfaces, records, reports, dashboards, case management, AI features, or RPA (software robots that handle repetitive tasks).
- Using AI tools to help with requirements, prototypes, test generation, documentation, code review, workflow design, or data analysis.
- Exposure to product management methods and agile delivery, including sprint planning, backlog management (keeping the work list prioritized), and retrospectives (short team check-ins on what to improve).
- Practice writing user stories and acceptance criteria that are detailed enough for a team to act on.
- Creating wireframes, user flows, journey maps, process diagrams, or simple screen designs in tools such as Figma, Miro, Lucidchart, Visio, Jira, or Confluence.
- Familiarity with data analysis, reporting, dashboards, and tracking KPIs (the key numbers that show how well something is performing).
- Exposure to test planning, regression testing (rechecking that existing features still work), UAT coordination, defect triage, or production readiness checks.
- An ability to sit between business and technical teams, turning business needs into clear requirements and explaining technical limits back in plain terms.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with a user-first mindset and a knack for simplifying complex topics.
- Some grounding in Agile, Lean, design thinking, system thinking, or continuous improvement.
- An interest in growing into a product owner, AI product manager, business architect, digital transformation leader, or forward deployed product manager
Primary Program Responsibilities:
- Participate in and complete a one-year long, non-rotational training program while creating and adding value to assigned department. Receive job specific training, general training in banking, communication and leadership, and personalized coaching and feedback. Performance measures may include several objective test scores, peer and sponsor feedback from group projects, facilitator feedback, Leadership Development Manager-MDP feedback, Department Manager feedback, final assessment score, and year-end performance appraisal from Department Manager.
- Core Training - Participate in training throughout the one-year assignment to learn banking, basic financial skills, technical skills, and leadership/interpersonal skills. Develop a solid understanding of banking functions, processes, and operations.
- Group Projects - Participate in group project assignments, working with a team of their peers to build relationships within their teams as well as with project sponsors, internal and external contacts, and senior management. Teams make a presentation to senior management at the conclusion of each project providing recommendations and potential project solutions.
- On-the-Job Training - The fundamental skills taught in core training are combined with On-the-Job training based on the incumbent's assignment. Job specific training teaches departmental policies, procedures, systems, and products. Upon completion of MDP, all incumbents attain basic skills necessary to contribute as individual contributors and/or managers in their assigned department.
- Complete tasks in a manner that are compliant with applicable laws and regulations and/or that serve to help the Company be in compliance with laws and regulations that apply to the business line the position supports.
- Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite.
