Internship Overview:

The Duke Energy Information Technology Summer Internship Program is designed for currently enrolled college students looking to bring their passion, skills, knowledge, and innovative mindset to the energy sector.

As an IT Intern supporting the Nuclear Report Intelligence (NRI) team, you will gain hands-on experience working with business intelligence, data analytics, reporting solutions, workflow automation, artificial intelligence, and application development technologies. Interns will collaborate with experienced professionals to support the enhancement of Nuclear Report Intelligence (NRI) solutions, reporting platforms, data integration initiatives, and AI-enabled search capabilities.

Projects may include:

• Python development and automation
• Data analysis and reporting using PostgreSQL and SQL
• Power Platform solution development (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI)
• Dashboard and report creation
• Data integration and process improvement initiatives
• AI-enabled search and knowledge management solutions

Ideal candidates should be highly motivated, possess strong analytical skills, and demonstrate a willingness to learn while contributing directly to team objectives and business outcomes.

Throughout the summer internship, students will learn more about Duke Energy's business operations and technology landscape through networking opportunities, site visits, professional development activities, and engagement with leaders across the organization.

  

Basic/Required Qualifications

• Enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university
• Preferred majors include Management Information Systems (MIS), Business Analytics, Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields
• Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
• Must not graduate prior to August 2027

Desired Qualifications

• GPA of 3.5 or higher
• Previous internship, project, research, or leadership experience
• Interest in data analytics, business intelligence, automation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies
• Familiarity with relational databases and SQL query development
• Experience working with datasets and performing data analysis
• Exposure to Python programming and automation concepts
• Familiarity with Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate
• Experience creating dashboards, reports, visualizations, or automated workflows
• Understanding of data modeling, business intelligence, and reporting concepts
• Exposure to PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or similar database technologies
• Experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, or related collaboration tools
• Familiarity with REST APIs, system integration concepts, or source control tools such as Git
• Knowledge of Power Query, DAX, or data transformation techniques
• Exposure to AI, Copilot, machine learning, or semantic search technologies
• Exhibits a willingness to learn and a growth mindset
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments
  
  

Working Conditions:

• Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility. Reliable, consistent transportation is required to ensure timely arrival at the applicable facility.

• Many of our opportunities require a 40-hour work week.
• Internship summer session length is 10-12 weeks
