Overview
About the Role & TeamIDC is seeking a Research Director to lead our research and insights on the datacenter and consumer storage media market and industry. In-scope storage media include Hard drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs), tape media, and other forms of persistent media (e.g., Blu-ray discs, CDs). The ideal candidate will possess a combination of qualitative and quantitative skills that would a) engage with industry contacts to gather demand and supply intelligence on the market, and b) enable them to deliver research and insights to IDC’s clients and prospects. The candidate must be self-driven and be able to collaborate with analysts across multiple research areas (e.g., storage systems, data protection, and servers) to deliver rich insights that encompass their findings. The job also requires regular interactions with clients to update them on current market trends and to provide advice on technical and business strategiesWhat You’ll Do
Develop and maintain direct relationships with key storage media suppliers/vendors globally. Develop market models for various media types (which will feed into IDC’s data products). Develop and deliver rich insights on the industry (key manufacturing and supply chain vendors) and the market (key adoption trends). Collaborate with infrastructure and device analysts to encompass insights into a bigger picture on platforms, systems, and personal computing device markets. Adopt a flexible work schedule to accommodate interactions with the US-based teams and clients.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Computer Science or Computer Engineering is a bonus)
- At least 10 years of experience in the IT industry, working at a storage media vendor, or at another market research firm in a relevant field.
- Strong quantitative skills with the ability to develop comprehensive market models in Microsoft Excel. The ability to interact with DBMS systems is a bonus.
- Strong writing skills. Ability to write and publish professional research notes (without the use of writing aids). These research notes will be circulated to IDC clients.
- Analytical, adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and presentation skills.
- Flexible work schedule to engage with IDC teams and US-based clients in the US time zones.
- Percentage of travel required: < 30-50% regionally and to the US 2-3 times a year. Local travel within Taiwan.
- Desired work model: Hybrid (ability to work out of the IDC Taiwan office when not traveling)
