Job Responsibility
Machine Availability & Field Service Execution
Oversee and execute field service operations, scheduled servicing, preventive maintenance (PM), and overhauls for the HEMM fleet. Direct efforts to improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and minimize Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) through swift field execution and high repair quality.
Advanced Troubleshooting & Breakdown Resolution
Lead hands-on diagnostics and repair for complex, multi-system failures across diesel engines, high-pressure hydraulics, power trains, and electrical systems. Conduct structured Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCA) on critical breakdowns, implementing Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to avoid repeat failures.
Advanced Condition Monitoring & Technical Support
Manage and execute Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) programs specific to heavy earthmovers, including fluid & oil analysis (S·O·S for engines, transmissions, hydraulics, Axles), structural crack inspections, and provide technical advice for Kaizen and machine reliability projects.
Maintenance Planning, Compliance & Safety
Coordinate with planning, stores, and inventory teams to ensure timely availability of fast-moving spare parts, wear components, and specialized service tools. Ensure strict compliance with mining safety regulations (e.g., DGMS rules, fire suppression systems, FOPS/ROPS cabin standards) and site-specific safety and quality protocols.
Competencies (which are required for performing the above tasks)
Knowledge
HEMM Architecture & Subsystems: - Deep technical expertise in heavy diesel engines, high-pressure hydraulics, hydro-static drives, auto-lubrication systems, hydraulic braking, and heavy structural welded assemblies. Field Diagnostics & CBM Tools: - Expert knowledge of hydraulic flow meters, engine diagnostic software, oil condition analysis (wear metals, viscosity, contamination), and electronic diagnostic toolkits. Troubleshooting Methodologies: - Solid understanding of systematic fault isolation, electrical/hydraulic schematic reading, and basic failure analysis techniques (5-Why, Fishbone). Safety & Statutory Standards: - Comprehensive understanding of mining and quarry safety regulations (e.g., DGMS guidelines, machine guarding, emergency cut-offs, site safety protocols).
Skills
Practical Field Diagnostics: - Skilled at using electronic service tools, hydraulic test rigs, and sensor data to quickly pinpoint root causes of operational defects. Component Overhaul & Repair:- Expert in dismantling, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling major mechanical, hydraulic, and engine assemblies under site or workshop conditions. Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent ability to explain technical issues, repair timelines, and operational best practices clearly to site managers, mine operators, and service management. Spare Parts & Tool Management: - Proficient in determining required spare parts, managing service kits, and planning major repair job schedules within budget and timeline constraints.
Abilities
Hands-On team Leadership: - Ability to perform physically demanding inspections and diagnostic work directly on machines operating in tough, dusty, or high-pressure site conditions. Analytical Problem-Solving: - Ability to systematically isolate multi-system interactions (e.g., engine derates caused by hydraulic load, electrical control faults). Safety-First Orientation: - Uncompromising commitment to safety during high-risk service procedures (e.g., pressure isolation, heavy lifts, hot work, brake system testing) Crisis Management & Decision-Making: - Ability to remain calm and deliver fast, reliable technical solutions under emergency machine-down situations.
Relevant Work Experience
- 7–8 years of hands-on field service, site maintenance, or technical support experience on Heavy Earthmoving Machinery (HEMM) within mining, quarrying, construction, or heavy engineering sectors.
- Strong background in managing field service jobs, maintenance planning systems (ERP/SAP), and field team leadership.
