Description
The Street Maintenance I, under general supervision, works as part of the crew that performs activities in support of the Street Department.Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Regular attendance and punctuality.
- Patch potholes using shovel, tamper, and rake.
- Drive dump truck with manual shift transmission and two speed differential.
- Unstop culverts, drains, and traps using shovels, rakes, forks, and sewer wash trailer.
- Assist with cleaning and maintaining drainage ditches and right-of-ways.
- Measure and paint streets. Paint parking spaces using the striping machine.
- Lift, mix, and pour sacrete using a mixing hoe, shovel, and wheelbarrow. Assist with concrete rough pour and finish work.
- Cut trees, large limbs, and debris using chainsaw.
- Maintain equipment by checking fluids, lubricants, and gas.
- Set out barricades and cones and flag traffic.
- Work unscheduled overtime as necessary. Respond to after-hours emergency calls including storm related events and/or inclement weather.
- Miscellaneous duties: Wash truck and other equipment using soap canister and water sponges. Clean streets after parades. Make cut-outs using jackhammer, shovel, rake, and tamper. Make driveway tie-ins.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and/or required.
- Completion of high school, GED or equivalent.
- One year experience operating dump truck and related equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:- Knowledge of safe working and operating practices including traffic control and job site protection.
- Knowledge of proper asphalt paving and patching techniques.
- Ability to lift 90-100 pounds. (Includes regular lifting/carrying of loose asphalt and dirt-30 lbs., tamper and jackhammer-60-100 lbs., sacrete-80 lbs., lumber-40 lbs., paint-40-50 lbs.; Includes regular pushing/pulling of rakes, shovels, and roller, tamper, heavy brake, cutting trees and pulling limbs, rakes, hoes, and sacrete)
- Ability to follow both written and oral instructions and work closely with others as part of a team..
- Ability to document completed work including basic math to calculate measurements and quantities.
- Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which includes heavy lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, bending/twisting, reaching, climbing, walking, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and operating assigned equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment. (Includes shovels, pick, rake, pitchfork, post hole digger, ax, hammer, machete, air jackhammer, tamper, chainsaw, roller, sprayer, hoe, wheelbarrow, weedeater, and paint machine.)
- Ability to understand multi-step written and verbal instructions and basic mechanical reasoning, and make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Possession of a valid Texas driver's license.
