JOB SUMMARY:Reporting to the Regional Director, and the Regional Medical Director, Infection Prevention and Control, the Manager is accountable for the effective and efficient functioning of the regional IPAC program across for a designated area of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), and representing the organization on industry and provincial committees to enable Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) strategies to meet organizational and departmental goals. Working with the Senior Infection Control Practitioners, oversees and coordinates the program for multiple sites, as outlined by Regional Director and Regional Medical Director, the Infection Control Officers, and the Infection Control Committee. The Manager oversees operational and resource requirements, planning and development of policies and procedures, as well as leads/manages a team that provides consistent, standardized and evidence based advice in all aspects of infection prevention and control across designated program area(s) and/or facilities. Participates in the development of organizational standards, protocols and education in the management of infection control for VCH that are consistent with best practices and regulatory requirements. This role interacts regularly with personnel at all levels within the organization including clinical operations directors, managers and physicians regarding regional services and operational activities and communicates with key internal and external stakeholders, infection control committees in conducting daily business and achieving an organizational culture of patient safety and sustained reduction of Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAIs).QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Health Sciences' profession plus a minimum of five (5) years' recent, related Infection Control experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience providing leadership and direct supervision within a large unionized health care environment is preferred.Certificate of completion in an IPAC-Canada (Infection Prevention and Control) approved course in infection prevention and control or equivalent. Current CBIC Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or within two (2) years of hire. Current registration/membership with a recognized professional association.ROLE SPECIFIC EXPERTISE:- Comprehensive, up to date knowledge of Infection Control principles used in prevention, control and surveillance of infection.- Familiarity with quality improvement, epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases and research techniques. - Comprehensive, up to date knowledge of standards, regulations, procedures, services and techniques across multiple modalities to ensure regulatory, quality, safety and accreditation standards are being met.- Skillfully coordinates activities of staff to ensure effective service delivery using strong leadership, coaching, mentoring and communication abilities.
