Description of Work

You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.The primary purpose of this position is to provide daily assistance including administrative and technical support to the Unit Manager of Right of Way as well as the entire R/W unit. Additionally, the position is responsible for monitoring Central Office right-of-way staff duties to ensure that efficiency levels are at a continuum. This involves work assignments with the Chief Engineer’s office, Director of Field Support, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Director of Human Resources, Fiscal Section, N.C. General Assembly, outsourcing consultant teams, municipal and county offices. Also included is the Secretary of Transportation’s office and support staff, all other sections/divisions with the Department of Transportation, and the general public of North Carolina as well as other states.
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the managing and scheduling of the Right of Way Review Board and the Secretary’s Review Board, entering data into SAP as needed for claim finalization, and assisting with any coordination with the AG’s office including discovery verifications, and other documents related to mediated settlements or trials. The position will also receive agent and firm surveys and other right-of-way communications, log those communications and keep a database relevant right-of-way information and schedules, organize and handle the planning of statewide supervisor meetings including accommodation, facility and IT assistance. This position may be called upon to schedule and set up interviews and assist the Administrative Specialist II when needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC08 $39,244 - $68,679
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Experience in computer software programs (MS Office Word and Excel), Internet, Outlook, SAP
- Experience in the use of a variety of office machines (computer, copier, fax, scanner, etc.)
- Customer service experience, including problem solving and resolving customer issues
- Experience reviewing and processing claims, invoices and incoming/outgoing mail
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task while coordinating work of direct management and other support staff
Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
