Graduate Coordinator - Visual & Performing ArtsJob Description:
The Graduate Coordinator for Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) support the department's marketing, communications, and visual identity while assisting with the technical needs of the Horning Theatre and art studios. This position plays a key role in promoting the department's programs, performances, exhibitions, and special events to current and prospective students, alumni, donors, and the broader community.Working closely with the Chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, the Graphic Design program, the Technical Director of the Horning Theatre, ensemble directors, student employees, and department administrative assistant, the Graduate Coordinator will coordinate the promotion, documentation, and archival of departmental activities. These include concerts, recitals, theatrical productions, guest artist performances, gallery exhibitions, lectures, and other special events.
The Graduate Coordinator will utilize existing communication platforms—including the university website and departmental social media channels—and help identify new and innovative ways to expand the department's visibility and effectively share the work of the VPA community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the VPA department to develop and maintain a cohesive visual identity and brand for the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.
- Create and implement marketing campaigns for concerts, recitals, theatrical productions, exhibitions, lectures, and other departmental events.
- Design print and digital marketing materials, including posters, brochures, programs, digital signage, and social media graphics.
- Develop written content for the department website and marketing materials, including faculty profiles, student spotlights, and visiting artist features.
- Manage and maintain the department's social media presence using current best practices to increase engagement and visibility.
- Coordinate with the University Department of Marketing and Communications to promote departmental events and initiatives.
- Assist in the ongoing development and maintenance of the VPA website.
- Collaborate with department faculty to promote, document, and archive gallery exhibitions.
- Assists the administrative assistant with the audio and video recording of performances and events for archival and promotional purposes.
- Identify new strategies and opportunities to strengthen the department's marketing, recruitment, and community outreach efforts.
- Maintain an organized archive of marketing materials, photographs, videos, and event documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and a demonstrated interest in the visual and performing arts.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with photography and digital content creation.
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and current social media marketing best practices.
- Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent) is desirable but not required.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, and student employees.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with website content management systems and basic video editing is desirable but not required.
Salary/Hours/Benefits
- Annual salary - $10,000
- 20 hours per week for 12 months
