Job Description:
This job is responsible for overseeing the Operations team and ensuring they meet deadlines, execute, and coordinate tasks. Key responsibilities include identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems, ensuring adherence to operations procedures, providing guidance to employees, handling exception requests, and referring more complex problems to a senior manager. Job expectations include having an understanding of foundational operations and familiarity in a specific product line.
Line of Business Description:
After receiving a request to resolve a transaction difference, the Balancing and Reconciliation team resolves a wide variety of transaction differences found in settled ledger or bank account activity in Merril Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith or Private Bank accounts. This requires extensive research into transaction history, multiple accounts, ledger activity etc. to understand the root cause of the difference and working with partners on a resolution.
Responsibilities:
- Resolves day-to-day problems and executes deliverables within the business unit by researching transaction differences, processing adjustments, and coordinating resolution of outstanding reconciliation items
- Applies knowledge of the end-to-end processes and ensures adherence to bank and regulatory policy and procedures when making decisions that impact various operations and product lines by reviewing reconciliation activity, confirming balances, and providing required data for regulatory reporting
- Manages team workload and provides oversight and direction to team by coordinating reconciliation, recordkeeping, and reporting activities to ensure prompt completion of deliverables
- Maintains internal, operational, and financial controls and works within risk appetite of the business unit by overseeing reconciliations, control reporting, secure record retention, and balance verification activities
- Evaluates efficiencies and identifies areas of improvement and growth to the overall process and implements process improvement opportunities by analyzing reconciliation trends, exception activity, and reporting results to improve accuracy and operational effectiveness

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in operations, finance, accounting, or a related environment
- Minimum of 1 year of experience leading, coaching, or developing team members to achieve service, quality, or business objectives
- Experience managing operational workflows, prioritizing work, and meeting service level expectations in a high-volume environment
- Experience researching complex operational or financial issues, finding root causes, and guiding issues through resolution
- Experience identifying and mitigating operational risks while ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and controls
- Experience using operational data, reporting, or metrics to monitor performance, identify trends, and improve business results
- Advanced experience using Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis techniques, to manage reporting, identify trends, and support operational decision-making
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with balancing, reconciliation, ledger activity, transaction research, or financial recordkeeping
- Knowledge of brokerage, banking, retirement, mutual fund, money market, or alternative investment products
- Experience supporting regulatory reporting, control reporting, audit requests, or financial record-retention requirements
- Education, training, or certification in business, finance, accounting, operations, risk management, or a related field
