Role summary:As a Staff Data Engineer at Walmart, you will design and implement scalable data solutions that support complex business needs across multiple domains. This role involves developing and optimizing data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and enabling seamless integration of multiple data sources. You will collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions while adhering to regulatory and compliance standards. About the team:
Walmart’s Consumer Health & Data Solutions team develops data-driven products that support healthier eating and informed wellness decisions. As a Staff Data Engineer, you will operate and enhance de-identification and tokenization pipelines on on-premises platforms using CLI workflows. The team also advances health-focused web pages and chatbot features that helps in the health domain. This position help with managing data sourcing, experimentation, evaluation, and production. Collaboration with product, data science, other data engineers is key, with ownership of model quality, insights, and measurable impact. This role emphasizes data engineering expertise, compliance, and delivering scalable, high-quality solutions.
What you'll do:
- Collaborate with stakeholders and translate complex business requirements into scalable data solutions
- Operate and evolve our de-identification and tokenization pipelines running on two on-prem vendor platforms via CLI driven workflows
- Build transformations and joins that adjust data granularity to satisfy our risk thresholds under our Expert Determination methodology.
- Own daily/weekly refresh cycles feeding internal analytics and external pharma partners.
- Translate HIPAA, DGC, and Expert Determination requirements into engineering controls alongside Legal, Privacy, and Compliance.
- Implement data governance practices ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards
- Automate workflows and optimize ETL processes using modern tools and cloud platforms.
- Conduct data quality assessments and metadata management
What you'll bring:
- Demonstrated capability to translate complex business requirements into scalable data solutions.
- Proven expertise in data engineering, including data pipeline management and large-scale data processing.
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and ETL frameworks for data transformation and integration.
- Experience with cloud data platforms, workflow automation, and CI/CD practices.
- Knowledge of data governance, regulatory compliance, and handling sensitive healthcare data such as PHI/PII.
- Ability to design and implement data models and metadata management using modern tools.
- Familiarity with Apache Kafka, REST APIs, and version control systems like Git.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
