Lunch Cook - 35 hours/week (full-time)

The New England College of Optometry (NECO) is a small, independent graduate institution that currently enrolls students from 34 states and 8 countries. The College has its teaching location at 424 Beacon Street, Boston and two owned and operated eye clinics (Boston and Roslindale). This opportunity will be located on the Beacon Street campus.

Creative, talented, and friendly lunch cook needed to staff a two-person cafe operation for a small college located in the Back Bay, Boston, MA. Approximately 30 to 50 lunch items are prepared per day. 

• Hours are 7:00am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 
• No nights or weekends expected.
• $28/hour (35 hours per week)
• Parking is free at our Back Bay campus

The cook will:

• Create a lunch menu (primarily delicious sandwiches, salads and soups) for a diverse campus community
• Create flexibility in menu choices (vegetarian options, and ethnic options)
• Seek feedback from customers and respond to complaints/suggestions
• Welcome customers and provide prompt and courteous service
• Take orders, make sandwiches, receive payment from customers
• Order food from vendors, maintain inventory, and adhere to standards around food storage and safety
• Ensure food remains fresh and is served at the correct temperature and observe and enforce food safety regulations
• Daily cleanup of kitchen and coffee area
• Ensure coffee supplies are stocked daily
• Maintain high personal grooming standards and professional demeanor
• Have ability to organize, prioritize, and plan ahead
• Display excellent customer service skills
• Have proven ability to work independently, solve problems

Requirements

• Must have prior experience operating a small food service business  
• Prior and demonstrated experience in the food service industry required (at least 2 years)
• A degree in culinary arts or related field including catering a plus
• Food Handler's and Choke Prevention Certification from the Department of Health required
