Architect 2 - Nuclear

Responsibilities

• Work on challenging assignments with an internationally recognized architectural/engineering firm that includes industrial, commercial and laboratory projects while focusing on power and power related projects, which include from time to time, first-of-a-kind projects with unique requirements
• Projects include a wide variety of power plant projects, related administration and security facilities, industrial projects, laboratories, and commercial facilities
• Projects include working with diverse clients including National Laboratories to implement designs that include emerging technologies and new carbon-free energy sources
• Coordinate the architectural design with other disciplines, such as civil, structural, HVAC, fire protection, electrical, mechanical and plumbing
• With guidance from more senior architects and designers, develop and interpret the design criteria and architectural design
• Provide suggestions to modify architectural design features to meet a variety of situations
• Present architectural design recommendations and proposals to staff and clients
• Assist in the preparation of 3D electronic design models and final construction documents for buildings and equipment enclosures
• With guidance from more senior architects, assist in conducting code analysis for our projects
• With guidance from more senior architects, assist in conducting analysis for energy code compliance associated with architectural designs
• Review and coordinate vendor submittals for conformity with construction documents
• Develop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge by way of S&L’s system of processes and associated “Communities of Practice”

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Professional Bachelor of Architecture Degree from an accredited program and at least 2 years of experience or a Masters Degree in Architecture from an accredited program and at least 1 year of experience in an architectural office environment
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT is required.
• Proficiency in MicroStation is a plus
• Experience with alternative 3D software and 3D add ons such as Enscape, as well as Building Information Modeling (BIM) is required
• Working knowledge of building and life safety codes, such as IBC, IECC, NFPA, ADAAG, OSHA
• Working knowledge of materials and details used in commercial, institutional, and industrial building systems, including insulated metal wall and roof systems, built-up and elastomeric roofing systems, metal stud framing systems, CMU walls, architectural precast wall systems, cast-in-place foundations and walls, and curtain wall systems
• Working knowledge in reviewing design drawings created by others
• Experience with review of product data sheets, shop drawings and other vendor documents
• Registration with the NCARB AXP (Architectural Experience Program) or the ability to obtain registration in the program for future licensure
• Occasional travel may be required

 

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Experience in developing detailed 3D models and 3D REVIT Families
• Experience in working with software to develop photorealistic representations and renderings

Compensation Range

$69,298 - $99,644
