Position description

The McGill University Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) specializing in Adult Epilepsy. We welcome applications from outstanding clinical epileptologists (MD) and clinician-scientists (MD/PhD). The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The successful candidate will join the McGill University Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and be based at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (The Neuro)—a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally known McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The Neuro is an internationally recognized centre for excellence in clinical care, research, and education in epilepsy. The Neuro's Epilepsy Program brings together internationally renowned clinicians, clinician-scientists, and basic scientists in a highly collaborative environment dedicated to improving the understanding and treatment of epilepsy. The program provides comprehensive tertiary and quaternary epilepsy care, evaluating approximately 200 patients with drug-resistant epilepsy annually through its Epilepsy Monitoring Unit for presurgical assessment, while the outpatient epilepsy clinics provide care for more than 4,500 patients each year.

The close integration of clinical care, research, and education provides an exceptional environment for innovation, translational research, and advanced subspecialty training. The Epilepsy Program collaborates extensively across McGill University and its affiliated research institutes, including the Neuro's McConnell Brain Imaging Centre, which houses state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities, including 3T and 7T MRI, MEG, and PET. The program also features advanced high-density EEG, MRI-compatible EEG, and neuromodulation technologies, providing a unique platform for both clinical and research innovation.

Across its universities and research institutes, Montreal is a leader in artificial intelligence research, further adding to the vibrant environment supporting top-notch neuroscience. The Neuro is an Open Science institution. Graduate training is offered through the Integrated Program in Neuroscience, an inter-Faculty program that is the largest of its kind in Canada.

McGill University was founded in 1819 and is consistently ranked among the top 30 public universities in the world and among the top three in Canada, while its medical school is consistently ranked first in Canada. McGill’s official language is English, and it is located in Montreal (http://www.montrealinternational.com/en/ ), a multicultural, multilingual city with a sparkling cultural life. Montreal has been selected numerous times as the best city for students in North America. Montreal is safe, housing costs are among the lowest for cities of comparable size, and the overall quality of life is outstanding (https://mcgill.ca/undergraduate-admissions/mcgill-experience/our-city-montreal-canada).
