Commerce, Data & Identity
- Commerce, Data & Identity provides the core product management functions for areas crucial to Disney’s media businesses. These include initiatives and products that power digital commerce, identity, and growth, as well as those that reach uniquely across The Walt Disney Company enterprise, such as messaging and privacy, among others. Additionally, it is responsible for the data engineering, science, and products for Disney Entertainment & ESPN, along with their interconnection with other parts of The Walt Disney Company.
Job Summary:
As a member of the BI Engineering team, you will be a key driver in maximizing the utility of our data by enabling seamless end-user BI experiences and ensuring our BI infrastructure is ready for advanced AI/ML applications. You will construct semantic layers for Looker, Tableau, and In-House Tools on top of our data warehouse, making sure the data is represented to analysts in an accurate, consistent, cost effective and performant way and is readily consumable for AI/ML models. You will also consult with teams on best practices and own administration tasks such as setting user provisioning, handling security models, and performing upgrades. The ideal candidate understands complex data models, has strong communication skills, and excels at bridging the gap between data infrastructure and high-impact business outcomes. Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
- Strategically configure and optimize BI infrastructure and semantic layers to ensure high data quality and accessibility, serving as the foundational layer for future AI and Machine Learning initiatives.
- Design, implement, and govern self-service analytical workflows and tools, enabling business users to autonomously access, interpret, and leverage BI insights efficiently.
- Works with data engineering and partner Analytics teams to create LookML models to support reporting.
- Manages system security, user provisioning, and license compliance within Looker and Tableau environments.
- Provides support to end-users for application connectivity and product usage.
- Responsible for design, initial installation, configuration, daily operations, and user support of business intelligence environments for Looker, Tableau and other BI tools including DEV, QA Production, high availability and disaster recovery instances.
- Monitor system and server health, troubleshoot connection and performance issues (including troubleshooting SQL queries), and tune BI tools to optimize performance and ensure high availability.
- Support upgrades, configuration and troubleshooting for business intelligence tools.
- Collects and analyzes system operational information for capacity and planning purposes.
- Develops and maintains appropriate system documentation to ensure that the system is supportable by other team members.
- Provides updates to our customers, business and staff on a timely basis for projects and tasks.
Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:Minimum and Preferred. Inclusive of Licenses/Certs (include functional experience as well as behavioral attributes and/or leadership capabilities)
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years experience with business intelligence tools and solutions, with at least one of those years working with Looker (Tableau, Power BI experience also helpful)
- 3+ years focused on tasks like maintaining security, setting up users, monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of data modeling principles including dimensional modeling and data normalization principles.
- Experience using analytic SQL, working with traditional relational databases and/or distributed systems (e.g.. Snowflake), required.
- Programming experience (e.g. Python, Pyspark)
- Ability to think strategically, analyze and interpret market and consumer information.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
- Must be able to effectively interact with both business and technical resources to understand and resolve issues as well as deliver projects.
- Must have problem solving skills in relation to system operations as well as product usage.
- Experience working with data APIs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tools including Snowflake, Databricks/EMR/Spark, Airflow a plus.
- ETL/ELT experience.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience.
