Summary:
As a Test Automation Lead, a typical day involves spearheading the evolution of testing practices to establish a seamless and efficient quality engineering process. This role focuses on enhancing the overall testing framework by integrating advanced methodologies and tools that ensure higher accuracy and integrity. The position requires driving innovation in testing strategies, fostering continuous improvement, and enabling predictive and intelligent testing solutions that support the organization's quality objectives. Collaboration with various teams to align testing efforts with business goals is a key aspect of the daily routine.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end testing activities across the complete software delivery lifecycle.
- Define the overall test strategy, test approach, scope, estimates, resource requirements, and delivery milestones.
- Review business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, functional specifications, and technical designs to identify test coverage and dependencies.
Prepare and maintain test plans, test scenarios, test cases, traceability matrices, test data requirements, and test completion reports.
- Coordinate testing across APIs, user interfaces, databases, batch processes, middleware, cloud services, and third-party banking systems.
- Lead System Testing, System Integration Testing, regression testing, end-to-end testing, operational acceptance testing, and support User Acceptance Testing.
- Ensure adequate testing of positive, negative, boundary, exception, reconciliation, and failure-recovery scenarios.
- Manage test execution, daily progress tracking, defect triage, defect ageing, retesting, and closure.
- Identify delivery risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, and quality concerns, and ensure timely escalation.
- Work closely with Business Analysts, Developers, Product Owners, Architects, Project Managers, DevOps teams, and business stakeholders.
- Support release readiness assessments and provide evidence-based test completion and go-live recommendations.
- Define and track quality metrics, including test coverage, execution progress, defect leakage, defect density, pass percentage, and automation coverage.
- Drive automation of API, UI, regression, test-data, and reporting activities.
- Review automated test scripts and ensure their maintainability, reusability, and integration with CI/CD pipelines.
- Support production validation, post-release verification, and defect analysis.
- Mentor test analysts and automation engineers and ensure adherence to testing standards and governance controls.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across Quality Engineering and the wider delivery lifecycle.
Professional & Technical Skills:
- 8–12 years of experience in software testing, including at least 3 years in a Test Lead or Test Manager role.
- Strong experience working on banking or financial-services technology programmes.
- Good understanding of banking products and processes such as lending, mortgages, credit risk, payments, customer onboarding, account servicing, or collections.
- Strong hands-on understanding of:
o API and web-service testing
o UI and functional testing
o System integration and end-to-end testing
o Database and data-validation testing
o Batch and file-processing validation
o Regression and release testing
- Experience with API-testing tools such as Postman, SoapUI, REST Assured, or equivalent.
- Experience with test-automation tools or frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Robot Framework, Cucumber, or equivalent.
- Experience with SQL and database validation.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent.
- Experience with test-management and defect-management tools such as Jira, Zephyr, Xray, ALM, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of test-estimation techniques, risk-based testing, requirements traceability, and quality reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams, cross-system dependencies, and geographically distributed teams.
- Strong stakeholder-management, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with cloud-based banking applications, preferably AWS or Azure.
- Exposure to performance, resilience, security, accessibility, and operational testing.
- Understanding of banking regulations, data privacy, audit, and risk-control requirements.
- Experience working in Agile, Scrum, SAFe, or hybrid delivery models.
- Familiarity with service virtualisation, test-data management, and environment-management practices.
- Experience in applying AI-assisted tools to test design, test-data generation, automation, defect analysis, or reporting.
