ABOUT THE ROLE

The Coordinator, Community Engagement supports the development and implementation of a variety of arts-engaged programs that foster social connection, dialogue, and learning. The High’s Learning and Civic Engagement Department is committed to methodologies that connect people, art, and ideas to encourage inquiry, connection, and civic engagement. This position works across two divisions of Learning and Civic Engagement—Community Engagement and Dialogue, and Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning—and reports to the Associate Director, Lifelong Learning and Accessibility.

This role helps create meaningful experiences for a wide range of audiences, strengthen relationships with community-based organizations, and measures the impact of these efforts for the museum, participants, and external stakeholders. The role includes:

  • Monthly program coordination and implementation

  • Community outreach and audience development,

  • LCE volunteer program coordination

  • Evaluation and assessment

SALARY:  $45,000
 

SCHEDULE:

  • Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

  • Occasional evenings and weekend as needed for program implementation

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

Monthly Program Coordination and Implementation (35%)

  • Work closely with supervisors as well as internal and external stakeholders, support the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs that foster connection and engagement.

  • Planning includes coordinating logistics, reserving spaces, scheduling facilitators, preparing program materials, and communicating with participants, partners, and collaborators via phone and email.

  • Implementation includes welcoming participants, supporting facilitators and instructors, and executing administrative tasks such as documentation, payment processing, expense tracking, and attendance management. Programs include:

    • Neighborhood Meet Up, a monthly gathering for unhoused neighbors

    • Art After Loss, an ongoing conversation program for bereaved older/adults

    • Musing Together, a monthly conversation program for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia and their care partners  

    • Sensory Friendly programming for adults who identify as disabled and/or neurodivergent

    • Other programs, as developed or assigned


Community Outreach and Development (35%)

  • Work closely with supervisor(s), assist in the research, development, and implementation of comprehensive strategies for ongoing engagement with community-based organizations across Metro Atlanta, including affinity-based groups, organizations focused on aging, arts and cultural organizations, faith-based organizations, and others.

  • Implementation includes cultivating and maintaining relationships with community partners through consistent outreach, communication, and participation in community events and gatherings, as well as identifying opportunities for new partnerships, collaborations, and programs that respond to community interests and needs while also expanding awareness of and engagement with the museum.

  • Provide ongoing support to community partners, stakeholders, and participants, and help ensure outreach, partnerships, and related initiatives are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the interests and needs of the diverse communities the museum serves.

Learning and Civic Engagement (LCE) Volunteer Program Coordination (15%)

  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and communications with LCE program volunteers; maintain volunteer records and tracking service hours; and coordinate volunteer assignments to support programs, events, and departmental initiatives.

  • Provide ongoing support and recognition to volunteers, ensuring they are well-informed, engaged, and prepared for their roles. Ensure the LCE volunteer program is welcoming, inclusive, and aligned with museum goals and community needs.

Evaluation and Assessment (15%)

  • Support the development and implementation of evaluation strategies across a range of measures from program effectiveness, participant experience, accessibility, audience reach, and progress toward short and long-term engagement goals. 

  • Assist in establishing and tracking key metrics including attendance, repeat visitation, engagement across Creative Aging and Lifelong learning as well as Community Engagement programs, revenue and membership (where applicable), as well as relevant demographic/audience composition data to better understand impact, who is being reached, and opportunities to broaden participation.

  • Responsibilities include administering surveys and feedback tools, assisting with program observations, and compiling data to inform ongoing improvements.  Contribute to accessibility-related evaluations and support museum-wide initiatives to enhance experience for visitors with disabilities.

WHAT WILL WE EXPECT OF YOU:

  • Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully and effectively with audiences across age, background, lived experience, and ability.

  • Demonstrated interest in community engagement, lifelong learning, and/or accessibility.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain attention to detail.

  • Flexibility, collaboration, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a dynamic, people-centered environment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, humanities, social sciences, education, or other relevant field OR 4 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Preferred: experience supporting or facilitating community-based, arts-related, and/or educational programs.
     

Language Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage participants, collaborators, and colleagues in an inclusive and welcoming manner.

  •  Comfort with multiple forms of communication, including written, in person, phone calls, and virtual formats.

Mathematical Skills

  • Basic math skills, including the ability to accurately track and reconcile attendance and registration data, and maintain program records.

  • Ability to use spreadsheets to organize data, perform basic calculations, and support reporting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and looking at a screen.

  • Operating in an environment with moderate noise, with occasional periods of loud noise due to crowds, programs and events.

  • Ability to navigate classroom spaces, set up, move, and store program supplies Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
