Location: Beverly, MA (on-site)
Travel: Minimal (less than 5%, if any)

As an NPI Manufacturing Engineer, you'll serve as the critical link between Design Engineering and Manufacturing, ensuring new products are designed for efficient assembly, scalability, quality, and cost-effective production. You'll influence designs from concept through release and help bring innovative products to market successfully.
Position Summary
The NPI Manufacturing Engineer partners with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Test Development teams to ensure new products are manufacturable, cost-effective, and production-ready. This role drives Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Excellence (DFX) initiatives while supporting successful product launches.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Design Engineering to ensure DFM, DFA, and DFX objectives are incorporated into new product designs.
- Participate in design reviews and provide manufacturing expertise from concept through production release.
- Review drawings, BOMs, routings, and engineering documentation to ensure manufacturing readiness.
- Drive standardization, part commonality, modular design, and error-proofing initiatives.
- Support prototype and First Article builds for new product introductions.
- Develop work instructions, process flows, PFMEAs, and Control Plans for new assemblies.
- Collaborate with Test Development to define test requirements and support fixture development.
- Design and implement tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids that improve quality and productivity.
- Evaluate manufacturing costs, processes, and tooling requirements for new products.
- Apply continuous improvement and DFA principles to simplify assembly operations and improve efficiency.
- Support Engineering Change implementation and ensure proper manufacturing documentation and configuration control.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
- 3-5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, NPI, Process Engineering, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting products from design through manufacturing release.
- Working knowledge of DFM, DFA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and manufacturing process development.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in semiconductor equipment, capital equipment, or complex electromechanical assembly.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to influence design decisions through manufacturing expertise.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and BOMs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE
$79,447.21 - $119,170.81This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on
multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work
location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as
you develop within the role.
Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the
Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular
employees working 20+ hours a week).
