HKUST Business School invites applications from capable, motivated and dynamic individuals for two positions at the Institute for Financial Research (IFR). IFR is committed to addressing critical social and economic issues by bringing together knowledge, expertise and resources across disciplines, sectors, schools and universities. Its research activities and programs focus on some of the most important challenges and opportunities facing Hong Kong and the wider region today, with four core research themes: (a) Technological Innovations; (b) Environmental and Social Responsibility; (c) Wealth Management; and (d) Macro-finance and Geo-economics.
Position 1: Assistant Manager
The appointee will play an important role in supporting the administration, operations and outreach activities of the Institute. Major duties include:
- Support the administration and implementation of projects, including drafting project terms and specifications, preparing reports, managing project accounts and budgets, and developing materials for communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in organizing academic and industry events, summits and forums, including coordinating with speakers, vendors and partners to ensure smooth and professional execution.
- Manage the Institute’s website and digital presence, draft promotional content, and support branding initiatives to enhance the Institute’s visibility, engagement and impact.
- Coordinate the daily operations of the Institute, including procurement, budget commitment processes and general administrative matters.
- Handle general enquiries and liaise effectively with internal and external parties.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of the Institute.
Requirements
Applicants should have a master’s degree in business administration, social science, communication or a related discipline, with at least 3 years of post-qualification work experience. The ideal candidate should have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua and Cantonese. Proficiency in digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Analytics, Adobe Photoshop and Canva is essential. Experience in digital marketing, social media management (e.g. WeChat and LinkedIn), content creation for multiple platforms (e.g. EDMs and YouTube), and the use of data analytics to enhance engagement and performance will be highly valued. A proven track record in project and event management, from planning through post-event evaluation, will be an advantage.
Position 2: Manager
The appointee will assist the Head of the Institute in developing and managing research and consultancy projects, building strategic partnerships, and supporting initiatives that advance the Institute’s mission and impact. Major duties include:
- Identify and pursue opportunities for collaborative research and consultancy projects with external institutions, companies and other strategic partners.
- Lead corporate communications and engagement efforts, and cultivate relationships with potential project partners and sponsors.
- Work closely with faculty members, project teams, research staff and junior team members to ensure effective project planning and execution.
- Review, optimize and improve processes and operating approaches to enhance efficiency and project outcomes.
- Identify notable outcomes and impact arising from the team’s initiatives, and develop publicity and communication materials accordingly.
- Prepare materials, analyses and detailed reports for project reviews and stakeholder meetings.
- Oversee incoming and outgoing project documentation and ensure proper record management.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with project partners and stakeholders.
- Conduct research and analysis to keep abreast of industry developments, policy issues and emerging trends.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of the Institute.
Requirements
Applicants should have a PhD in a business-related discipline, with at least 3 years of post-qualification work experience in research support and administration. The ideal candidate should have a strong academic background, sound understanding of policy-oriented research, and the ability to develop academic and external partnerships. An excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua and Cantonese, is required. Proficiency in office productivity software and programming tools for data analysis, such as Stata, Matlab or Python, will be an advantage. A proven track record in managing and contributing to research projects is highly desirable.
Appointment will be made on a 2-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
