This role is responsible for facilitating the following groups:

  • Harmonies - This support group allows community members, who are seeking community and social support, to openly discuss their experiences as Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, Non-Binary, or Gender-Expansive individuals. This socialization space provides an opportunity to share their ideas through regular checking in on various topics related to the self and the environments queer people find themselves in.
  • LGBTQ+ Wellness - LGBTQ+ Wellness is a peer-led community focused on whole-person wellbeing. Through conversation, shared experiences, and facilitated activities, participants explore topics such as emotional wellbeing, resilience, healthy relationships, self-care, and community connection while building meaningful relationships with other LGBTQ+ adults.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, manage and facilitate social groups including but not limited to support group(s), life-skills group(s), and trauma-informed group(s).
  • Ensure administrative components of facilitation are completed at the end of each session including group session notes, observations, and attendance records. Keep track of group attendance and OMNY cards distributions if applicable.
  • Actively and effectively communicate with community members and The Center’s staff. This includes schedule changes, building notices/news, and programmatic changes.
  • Provide agendas for each group session which include maintaining group guidelines and creating an inclusive group space that encourages participant engagement
  • Attend facilitator training sessions and engage in skill-building opportunities.
  • Attend the quarterly seasonal facilitator meetings and the one-on-one check-ins as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent transferable life/professional experience.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in group facilitation preferred.
  • Prior experience in conflict resolution management, de-escalation techniques, and problem-solving strategies.
  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred. Language preferences: Spanish, Bengali, Russian, and/or French-Creole.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills and techniques and the ability to work with a wide range of work styles and cultural backgrounds.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and video-conference platforms.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Significant knowledge, understanding, and experience working with LGBTQIA+, TGNC, POC, and immigrant populations, including knowledge of the spectrum of gender identity, transgender issues, immigration, and POC issues.
  • Commitment to inclusive, multicultural programming, prior experience working effectively in coalitions with diverse communities, and an understanding of the intersectionality of oppressions.
  • Strong commitment to social justice and the mission of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center.

The Center’s Commitment to Equity & Inclusivity:

The Center was born of community activism in response to the AIDS epidemic, ensuring a place for LGBTQ people to access information, care, and support that they were not receiving elsewhere. We opened in 1983 to help people who had doors constantly closed in their faces, ostracized by family, friends, and shunned by the general society. Since that time, we have continually provided a wide array of services and programs to serve our community, with an intentional focus on providing support to those who are most vulnerable. We have always taken great care to be a space that responds to community needs; engaging in diversity, equity and inclusion work is another outgrowth of those ongoing efforts. We recognize that in order to help LGBTQ individuals and our diverse community achieve parity in health, justice, opportunity and success outcomes, our organization must hold a strong foundation and competency in, as well as invest organizational focus on, equity and inclusion frameworks, practices and policies. This is also true in our hiring and retention of staff.

The Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
