Description
Johnson College is currently seeking a part-time Carpentry and Cabinetmaking Lab Assistant to teach daytime classes for the upcoming fall 2026 semester. The candidate must have experience in all phases of floor framing, wall framing, and ceiling framing. Window and door installation. Knowledge of drywall prep and installation, spackling, priming, and paint Set up and installation of interior trim and finished flooring. Knowledge of site layout, various transits and leveling devices.
The instructor will be responsible for organizing and delivering class syllabi and objectives in a clear, concise manner, maintaining an organized and safe lab; ensuring training aids, tools, and equipment are maintained and prepared for use in the classroom and labs; keeping accurate records of student performance and making timely submission of academic records; and providing students with timely feedback.
The ideal candidate should be able to speak confidently in front of a small crowd, have a passion for recruiting into the skilled trades, and have flexible work schedule hours to include morning classes. All teaching positions require a minimum of an Associate's degree and/or 4-5 years of technical experience. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required for most positions. Industry professionals are encouraged to apply. Individuals must have strong communications skills, the ability to teach, expertise in their program area, good managerial skills, knowledge of industry standards, assessment skills, organizational skills, and word-processing skills.
