Description
Shape the Financial Success of Global Projects as a Project Controller
Are you ready for the next step in your career? We are looking for a Project Controller to join our Tissue BA finance team in Karlstad.
In this role, you will partner with project teams and management, supporting complex international projects from both a financial and business perspective. You will turn numbers into meaningful insights that help improve project profitability and decision-making. You will have the opportunity to challenge, influence, and shape business decisions, helping project teams improve profitability and performance through proactive financial leadership.
If you enjoy combining analytical thinking with collaboration and want to make a real impact on a global environment, this could be the opportunity you have been looking for.
Your responsibilities
You will act as a finance business partner for project teams, supporting and monitoring the financial performance of a global project portfolio throughout its lifecycle.
You will drive financial improvements and risk mitigation activities to help achieve project profitability and cash flow targets while ensuring compliance with accounting principles.
You will collaborate with project managers to control project costs, estimates, risks, opportunities, and foreign currency exposure.
You will challenge and support project managers in budgeting, forecasting, project establishment, recognition plans, and other financial matters.
You will prepare monthly project and P&L reporting, provide insightful analysis to management, and contribute to the development of tools, processes, and ways of working.
Expectations for you
You have a master's degree in finance, Business Administration, or another relevant field, with a solid understanding of project financials.
You have 2–5 years of experience in finance, controlling, or a similar role supporting a global business environment.
You have strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel, as well as experience with ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and other financial systems.
You have strong analytical skills and the ability to reconcile, consolidate, and analyze data from multiple sources to support business decision-making.
You have strong business acumen, influencing skills, and the ability to build credibility and drive results across a global organization.
You communicate effectively in both Swedish and English, verbally and in writing.
To succeed in this role
You are a proactive and business-minded finance professional who does not wait for things to happen; you make them happen. You take ownership, drive actions forward, and are comfortable stepping into discussions where you need to challenge assumptions, influence decisions, and guide project teams toward stronger business outcomes.
You enjoy working closely with others and building strong relationships across the organization, but you are equally comfortable working independently when decisions need to be made. You know how to balance collaboration with accountability, and you have the confidence to prioritize, make tough calls, and say no when necessary.
You thrive in an environment where initiative, courage, and persistence matter. Whether you are supporting project managers, presenting insights to management, or solving unexpected challenges, you bring a positive can-do attitude, a development mindset, and the determination to move things forward. At the same time, you can switch gears when needed, combining strategic thinking with the attention to detail required to deliver accurate project financials and reporting.
We also expect you to align with Valmet’s Leadership Principles—practical behaviors that guide how we lead, collaborate, and succeed together:
Take accountability – Act with ownership, set clear expectations, and follow through
Lead with courage – Champion change, try bold ideas, and learn quickly
Build on trust – Listen to understand, be open, and create psychological safety
