Description
Apollo Technical has an immediate need for a Mechanical Engineer in the Sugar Land TX area
A manufacturer is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to help design, analyze, and test mechanical parts and housings for high-reliability electronic equipment used in demanding field conditions. This is a hands-on role for an early-career or mid-level engineer who wants to build skill in structural integrity, heat management, and environmental durability. You will support CAD layouts, material choices, prototype builds, and lab testing, with close mentorship from senior designers.
What you will do
- Design support: Create and revise 3D models and drawings. Help develop housings and structural parts that protect electronics.
- First-pass analysis: Run entry-level FEA for stress and deflection. Support basic heat-transfer calculations and early thermal/CFD setup.
- Harsh-environment packaging: Apply fundamentals of shock, vibration, sealing, and environmental protection under senior guidance.
- Build and test: Assemble prototypes, check fit, take measurements, and assist with structural and thermal lab work.
- Materials and fabrication: Learn shop and DFM guidelines, help choose materials and finishes, and work with machine shops and fabricators.
- Tolerancing: Assist with stack-ups and apply GD&T on drawings.
- Problem solving: Gather data, review test results, and suggest design changes during root-cause work.
- Growth: Work with senior engineers to strengthen modeling and design judgment and take on more complex hardware over time.
Education
- Required: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited program.
- Preferred: M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or coursework in structural mechanics, thermal systems, or high-reliability hardware design.
Experience
- 0–5 years of hands-on mechanical work (internships, co-ops, academic projects, or early professional roles).
- Exposure to electronics packaging, industrial equipment, transportation, energy, or similarly demanding hardware is helpful, not required.
