Extraordinary Projects need Exceptional Talent
We are seeking a Project Engineer with experience in bridge construction or rehabilitation projects, with a particular focus on mechanical bridge systems. This position supports the planning, coordination, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of movable bridge components, including machinery systems, structural steel interfaces, hydraulic equipment, mechanical drive systems, bearings, and related infrastructure. The Field/Project Engineer works closely with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, owners, and design teams to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract requirements.
Job Description:
- Support the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of movable bridges, including bascule, swing, and vertical lift bridge systems.
- Coordinate installation of mechanical equipment including gears, motors, reducers, hydraulic power units, cylinders, machinery frames, trunnions, bearings, and operating systems.
- Review contract drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and equipment submittals for compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with project scheduling, procurement tracking, cost control, and subcontractor coordination.
- Monitor field operations to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.
- Participate in inspections, testing, commissioning, and operational acceptance of mechanical bridge systems.
- Coordinate crane picks, heavy lifts, equipment installations, and critical work activities.
- Track production quantities, labor productivity, equipment utilization, and project progress.
- Prepare RFIs, change order documentation, daily reports, meeting minutes, and progress updates.
- Verify installation tolerances, alignments, equipment fit-up, and interface requirements between structural and mechanical components.
- Assist with constructability reviews and resolution of field engineering issues.
- Coordinate with electrical, structural, and controls disciplines during installation and startup activities.
- Support quality control and quality assurance efforts, including inspection and testing plans.
- Maintain project documentation, as-built records, and turnover packages.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience on heavy civil, bridge, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience with bridge rehabilitation, movable bridges, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical systems, or industrial equipment installation preferred.
- Understanding of hydraulic systems, gear drives, motors, bearings, machinery alignment, and rotating equipment.
- Knowledge of construction means and methods, project scheduling, and contract administration.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, and/or project management software.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- EIT certification is a plus.

- Movable bridge rehabilitation or new construction projects.
- Bascule, swing, or vertical lift bridge systems.
- Structural steel erection and heavy rigging operations.
- Hydraulic and electromechanical equipment installation.
- Transit, rail, DOT, Port Authority, Army Corps of Engineers, or other public infrastructure projects.
- Field commissioning and operational testing of mechanical systems
