ROLE OVERVIEW
Astrodyne TDI is seeking a curious, detail-oriented Failure Analysis Test Technician who enjoys determining why products are not working. This hands-on role investigates failures in power-conversion products, performs electrical and functional testing, troubleshoots electronic assemblies, and partners with technicians and engineers to identify potential root causes. The technician will gain valuable experience with AC-DC and DC-DC technologies and industry-standard laboratory equipment.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Troubleshooting & Failure Analysis
- Perform component-level troubleshooting and failure analysis of AC-DC, DC-DC, and custom power-conversion products.
- Investigate customer-reported failures and reproduce failure conditions when possible.
- Perform detailed visual, electrical, and functional inspections of electronic assemblies.
- Use schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of material, Acceptance Test Procedures, and other technical documentation to troubleshoot products.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques to identify failure modes and potential root causes.
- Support recommendations and corrective actions intended to prevent recurring failures.
Testing & Diagnostics
- Perform functional testing of power supplies and electronic assemblies in accordance with established procedures.
- Conduct electrical measurements using digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, electronic loads, power analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.
- Assist with environmental, operational, and reliability testing.
- Accurately record test results, observations, and failure conditions.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Document failure modes, troubleshooting activities, and investigation results clearly and accurately.
- Prepare failure-analysis and technical reports.
- Enter repair and failure-analysis information into company databases and ERP systems.
- Maintain organized records throughout each investigation.
- Work with technicians and engineers to identify product and process improvement opportunities.
WHAT YOU BRING - REQUIREMENTS
- Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
- Basic understanding of electronic circuits and components.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, electronic loads, and power analyzers.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow technical procedures and work instructions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a technical team.
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
- Previous experience as an electronics, electrical, or test technician.
- Experience troubleshooting electronic assemblies or power supplies.
- Familiarity with AC-DC and/or DC-DC power conversion.
- Soldering and electronic assembly experience.
- Experience using ERP, repair, or data-collection systems.
- Exposure to root-cause analysis, failure analysis, or structured problem-solving methods.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing testing and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work with small electronic components and assemblies.
- Ability to distinguish component markings and wire colors.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to safely work around energized electronic equipment while following established safety procedures.
PAY RANGE & BENEFITS
$25.00-$30.00 per hour. Final compensation will be based on relevant experience, qualifications, skills, and other business considerations.
