Job Summary:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The basic responsibilities of the Assistant Controller includes, but not limited to the following.
- Manages and mentors a team of accountants to foster initiative-taking processes and improvements by the staff.
- Responsible for accuracy of the Company’s general ledger and its compliance with GAAP. Prepare internal financial reports, and ensure that they are timely, accurate, and in compliance with GAAP. Manage communication to the Controller and CFO to ensure all regulatory requirements are met, emerging accounting literature is understood, and properly and timely implemented for all Cemstone / TCC companies.
- Support the optimization and continuous improvement of financial systems to enhance data accuracy, efficiency, internal controls, and management reporting.
- Assists the Controller in establishing and maintaining financial control policies safeguarding corporate assets.
- Manages the annual external audit and preparation of all company audit work papers, including the review of all company trial balances with reconciliations as required. Function as the lead person and liaison with the external audit team, providing them with data and work papers necessary to complete the required fieldwork.
- Assists the Controller in promoting a culture of continuous improvement to ensure department processes and procedures are reviewed regularly for efficiency and effectiveness, developing metrics to measure improvements.
- Manages bank transfers for worker’s compensation, health care, 401K and tax payments.
- Responsible for all fixed asset records, including depreciation, fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions, reconciliations and maintaining Construction-In-Progress records.
- Manage sales and use tax records for all companies including the calculation of monthly sales and use tax owed by company, by state. Manage the monthly/quarterly tax returns and timely payment of tax as required. Assist with all sales and use tax audits.
- Support the company to improve gross margins through cost reduction initiatives, and collaborate with cross functional teams to drive the company growth initiatives.
- Assist with the management of inventory, including inventory balances, variances, and reserves. Supervise physical inventories and cycle count programs and prepare year-end inventory audit papers.
- Support the analysis and reporting of purchase price variances, operational overhead expenses, and inventory variances, including the calculation of accruals/reserves as required.
- Assist with acquisitions including physical inventories, asset valuation and set up, and training of acquired staff as needed.
- Partner with mid and senior level management in managing department budgets and influence decisions to achieve financial goals.
- Participate in and lead company projects and initiatives as required
Education and/or Experience:
- 7-10 years of financial accounting experience preferably in a manufacturing environment
- 3 years of supervisory experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA/CMA or MBA preferred
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with and advise assigned business groups to achieve desired results
- Experience with multi-plant, multi-company environment preferred

Directly supervises the Corporate Accounting staff
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing Software.
Salary is dependent on work history and qualifications
$150,000-$175,000 annually
