Description
EA Talent Solutions has been engaged by a long-established real estate management company—operating for more than 85 years with properties across Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Scarsdale, and the Bronx—to recruit a Controller for their office in Nassau County, Long Island (near the Queens border).
This is an excellent onsite opportunity for a strong Assistant Controller or Senior Accountant who is ready to step into a full Controller role. The ideal candidate is hungry, hands-on, and thrives under pressure in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. This is a “doer” role in an organization that rewards hard work—well suited to someone who has been ready to make the leap and wants the runway to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and oversee full-cycle accounting across a high-volume, multi-entity portfolio (100+ LLCs).
- Oversee AR and AP functions, working side by side with the head of AP, head of AR, and staff accountants.
- Prepare and review journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations.
- Manage the month-end close and produce timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Monitor daily cash management—understanding inflows, outflows, and how cash moves across entities.
- Perform bank and account reconciliations and maintain clean, well-supported records.
- Review and analyze financial results; prepare variance analysis and ad hoc reporting for the CFO and Principals.
- Help strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and process efficiency as the function is rebuilt.
- Support, mentor, and develop staff accountants; help build a stronger, more consistent accounting team.
- Handle auditor requests and support the engagement of any third-party accounting resources during the cleanup effort.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including full-cycle GL ownership in a multi-entity organization.
- Real estate accounting background strongly preferred; high-volume operating environments (e.g., restaurant groups, family offices with numerous investments) also a strong fit.
- Solid understanding of AR, AP, journal entries, reconciliations, and cash flow.
- Comfortable managing large data volumes and numerous entities/bank accounts.
- Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP required).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- CPA not required.
- Comfortable working onsite, full-time; strong attendance and physical presence expected.
Compensation
- Base salary range of $120,000–$150,000, depending on experience.
