Job Overview
As a Staff/Senior Process Development Engineer within PDE-CEM, you will leverage advanced semiconductor process characterization, failure analysis, yield analytics, and process integration expertise to accelerate product and technology development. The role focuses on developing robust assembly processes, improving yield and reliability, supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), and utilizing data-driven methodologies to optimize manufacturing performance.
The ideal candidate combines strong semiconductor physics knowledge, advanced characterization skills, yield improvement experience, and cross-functional leadership capability to drive continuous process innovation and manufacturing excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Process Development & Characterization
- Develop and optimize Process of Record (POR) for assembly and packaging technologies.
- Establish process windows, process capability targets, and characterization strategies.
- Apply statistical methodologies including DOE, SPC, JMP, and Six Sigma to characterize and optimize manufacturing processes.
- Drive early process learning through advanced characterization and failure analysis techniques.
Yield Improvement & Problem Solving
- Lead root cause investigations using structured methodologies including RCA, FMEA, OCAP, and containment strategies.
- Analyze failure mechanisms and process interactions impacting yield and reliability.
- Identify process variation drivers and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support high-volume manufacturing through excursion management and continuous process improvement.
Data Analytics & Digital Engineering
- Utilize manufacturing, yield, and equipment datasets to identify process trends and optimization opportunities.
- Develop data-driven solutions for anomaly detection and predictive process monitoring.
- Leverage analytics platforms and visualization tools to improve engineering decision-making.
- Partner with digital and automation teams to deploy AI-enabled process monitoring solutions.
NPI & Technology Development
- Support product qualification and technology transfers with strong first-pass success.
- Drive process readiness for new product introduction (NPI).
- Evaluate new materials, process technologies, and equipment capabilities.
- Establish baseline POR, TOR, and BOM controls for transferred products and technologies.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as a technical resource for process characterization, yield improvement, and failure analysis.
- Coach and mentor engineers on structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Lead cross-functional teams involving PDE, Manufacturing, Yield, Process Integration, Reliability, and Equipment Engineering organizations.
- Drive technical alignment and stakeholder engagement for complex development programs.

Education
- Ph.D. or Master's Degree in Physics, Materials Science, or related discipline.
Experience
- 5+ years semiconductor industry experience in one or more of the following:
- Process Development Engineering
- Failure Analysis
- Yield Engineering
- Process Integration
- Characterization Engineering
- NPI Engineering
Technical Skills
- Strong semiconductor device physics and materials science fundamentals.
- Expertise in advanced characterization techniques:
- SEM
- TEM
- FIB
- AFM
- Spectroscopy Techniques
- Experience with process characterization, defect analysis, and reliability investigations.
- Working knowledge of DOE, SPC, FMEA, JMP, RCA, Control Plans, and OCAP methodologies.
Data & AI Competencies
- Experience using yield analytics and visualization tools.
- Familiarity with data science, machine learning concepts, and manufacturing analytics.
- Ability to convert large datasets into actionable engineering insights.
- Exposure to Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing concepts.
