Disability Case Manager

This is a fully remote position based in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Atlantic region. Due to operational requirements, employees in this role, must reside within one of these provinces.

As a Disability Case Manager, you play a key role by proactively and responsibly managing claims while also contributing to people’s well-being and financial security. You help process life and health insurance claims, promote occupational health, and manage disabilities. More specifically, you will be required to:

• Develop strategies and build strong relationships to establish an intervention plan to facilitate the insured's recovery and return to work in a timely and sustainable manner
• Communicate by phone and mail with various parties to develop a comprehensive understanding of the elements and context related to the absence and communicate decisions to the insured and the policyholder
• Approve and adjudicate claims, process waivers of premium, establish the amount of the benefit, determine the period payable and proceed with the payment and ensure the necessary follow-ups are completed
• Prepare documents needed by the organization’s rehabilitation coordinator for claimant interviews. Review claims with medical consultants and the legal department as required
• Process disability claims in accordance with the terms of the group insurance contract

What you bring to the table

• College diploma in a related field
• A minimum of three years of relevant experience as a disability claims specialist (short- and/or long-term disability management, return-to-work, claims adjudication), healthcare such as rehabilitation, nursing, kinesiology, physiotherapy, psychology, occupational health, etc…
• Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
• Advanced proficiency in English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English speaking partners, members and/or clients
