About the Role
As an Associate Test Engineer, you will support the development, validation, and demonstration of innovative in-cabin sensing technologies that are shaping the future of automotive safety and user experiences. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will contribute to the testing and evaluation of advanced driver and occupant monitoring solutions, including child presence detection, occupant monitoring, and driver state assessment systems.
This is an individual contributor role offering hands-on exposure to cutting-edge automotive technologies, test automation, and digital validation methods.
Based in Garching, this position is offered as a fixed-term contract for two years.
Your Responsibilities:
- Support literature studies and technology investigations for emerging trends related to in-cabin experience and occupant monitoring technologies.
- Support feasibility evaluations of innovative concepts and technologies for automotive applications.
- Support testing activities for advanced in-cabin sensing features, including:
- Child Presence Detection
- Occupant Detection
- Drowsiness Detection
- Alcohol Intoxication Detection
- Detection of Various Drug Impairment Scenarios
- Support product evaluation and demo-related activities.
- Perform general testing activities for software and system validation.
- Execute defined test protocols and document test results.
- Prepare, maintain, and update test reports and validation documentation.
- Document defects and support defect tracking activities.
- Communicate test findings to project stakeholders and engineering teams.
- Support product demonstrations and customer demo activities.
- Prepare and validate demo environments, including hardware and software setup activities.
- Create demo validation reports and support assessment activities related to customer demonstrations.
- Support software release readiness assessments with respect to customer demo requirements.
- Evaluate digital testing methods for Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) and Occupant Monitoring Systems (OMS), including:
- Synthetic data approaches
- Digital scenario generation concepts
- Coordinate technical interfaces with other product teams and external suppliers, as required.
- Support the automation of test environments and test execution activities.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of test concepts and test strategies.
What You Need to Be Successful
- Bachelor's in Automotive Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with Python programming and data analysis.
- Experience working in either:
- an RTOS/C++ development environment, or
- a MATLAB/Simulink-based environment.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge and strong interest in one or more of the following domains:
- ADAS / Automated Driving
- Systems Engineering
- Simulation Technologies
- Automotive Sensor Systems
- Understanding of software and system testing methodologies.
- Ability to analyze test results and communicate findings in a structured manner.
- Proactive mindset and strong willingness to learn new technologies.
- Self-organized working style with attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
Bonus Points If You Have
- Academic or professional experience in Computer Vision.
- Master's degree in Automotive Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) or Occupant Monitoring Systems (OMS).
- Hands-on experience with synthetic data generation and simulation-based validation approaches.
- Knowledge of automotive software development processes and V-model methodologies.
- Experience with test automation frameworks and scripting.
- Experience with IPG CarMaker.
- Experience with CARLA simulator.
- Experience working with RTOS-based embedded systems.
- Familiarity with automotive communication protocols and vehicle integration activities.
- Exposure to machine learning, data science, or perception algorithm development.
What Makes You Eligible
- You must be legally authorized to work in Germany.
- You must be able to work on-site in Garching and collaborate effectively with local and global engineering teams.
- Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken) are required.
- Willingness to support customer demonstrations and occasional testing activities at customer or project locations when required.
- Ability to work in a laboratory, prototype, and vehicle-testing environment.
