Job Summary

Responsible for recruitment, evaluation, and yield of prospective students including both domestic and international citizen populations. Plans events and outreach to students and secondary schools and performs public relations and marketing functions to aid in the overall mission of Smith College Office of Admission.

    

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in Smith College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

RECRUITMENT (35%):

  • Plan and execute approximately 6 to 8 weeks of domestic and international travel annually to recruit students
  • Manage recruitment and yield for multiple assigned geographic territories determined by the Dean of Admission
  • Participate on multiple teams within the Office of Admission as assigned, with particular focus on recruitment of international citizens and engagement with international high schools. 
  • Recruitment travel: plan and execute solo and group trips to visit high schools, community colleges, and college fairs in the United States and internationally.
  • Territory management: initiate and maintain effective relationship management and communication between Smith College and college counselors from a diverse range of secondary schools, including international high schools; manage communication with students, parents, counselors, and other constituencies.
  • General recruitment: conduct weekly public speaking presentations to on-campus and/or virtual visitors and interested prospective student groups; conduct workshops related to applying to college; interview prospective students as needed, including but not limited to non-traditional transfer students. 
  • Provide collaborative assistance to the Associate Director who manages international admission strategy and recruitment in alignment with the college’s mission and priorities. 
  • Assist with recruitment and selection of transfer students, both traditional and non-traditional, as assigned. 
 

ADMISSION READING AND SELECTION (30%):

  • Read, evaluate, rate, and make recommendations to the Dean of Admission on first-year and transfer applicants from assigned geographic territories, including both domestic and international citizens.
  • Participate in admission committee conversations; make judgements on the admissibility of applicants on the basis of institutional policy and priorities under direction of the Dean of Admission.  
 

PROGRAMS (25%):

  • Participate in and act as a thought partner from an international recruitment perspective with on-campus and virtual large-scale events for prospective and admitted students.
  • Lead workshops during events for prospective and admitted students, with a particular focus on international citizens.
  • Lead and coordinate targeted on-campus and virtual recruitment and yield programs for international citizens.
  • Orchestrate campus visit events for international counselors and/or international student groups as assigned.  
 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (10%):

  • Pay consistent and on-going attention to changes, trends and developments at Smith College, in higher education, and in the field of college admission in general.
  • Develop skills, make connections, and pursue professional development opportunities to better understand current issues and challenges in the field. Participate in professional organizations and conferences as appropriate.
  • Cooperate with other offices and staff of the College when necessary, especially Student Financial Services, International Students and Scholars Office, and Office of Alumnae Affairs.
  • Perform related duties as required to advance the mission of the College. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Admission.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1-5 Years Experience

Required License(s):

  • Driver’s license
  • U.S. Passport, or ability to obtain one upon hire

Skills:

  • The ability to effectively and efficiently develop and execute several key projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as an effective and positive team collaborator.
  • Proven organizational and planning skills and excellent writing and oral communication skills are necessary for success.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a high comfort level with public speaking to large and small groups.
  • In addition, the position requires strong analytical and technological skills including fluency with MS Office and Google suites, CRM platforms (and the ability to learn Slate CRM specifically) and Workday systems.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with people of all backgrounds; sound judgement, creativity, and vision are highly valued in the office.
  • Must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license and valid passport or the ability to obtain one. 
  • Must be able and willing to travel by both car and airplane, including navigating driving in urban areas and navigating intensive international travel including flights of 5+ hours and multiple connections.
  • Able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

  • Previous experience in a college admission office and with public speaking preferred.
  • Individuals should be able to demonstrate fluidity with a variety of software and database management platforms. 
 

Skills:

  • Proficient in languages other than English preferred, especially Spanish and/or Mandarin. 

Compensation

In addition to a competitive benefits package, annualized pay for this role is typically between $50,298.84 - $68,051.37 covering the middle half of market compensation. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications and work schedule if less than full-time.
