Description

- Responsible for performing customer service duties in the field reading water meters, placing door hangers to inform customers of service changes/usage, identify water meter equipment problems, perform minor water meter maintenance, and recording usage and turning off and restoring service as directed.
- Reads and re-reads, when necessary, residential, and commercial water meters throughout the County and records consumption in hand-held computer.
- Locates meters, removes meter covers as necessary and accurately records readings.
- Turns water service off and on as assigned.
- Observes condition of meters, leaks, unsafe conditions, or unauthorized use of water immediately to Superintendent.
- Sets meters and performs minor maintenance and repairs.
- Provides courteous and efficient service to customers and provides information concerning.
- District's regulations governing service when necessary.
- Operates a motor vehicle in connection with assigned duties.
- Subject to "On-Call" rotation.
- Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED and combination of education and experience equivalent to two years of day-to-day interaction with other employees or the public to provide requested services with accurate attention to detail and adherence to procedures or standards.
Valid commercial driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
This position is a safety sensitive position and subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with the Pender County Personnel Policy and Risk Policy.This work requires the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force regularly, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, climbing, standing, walking, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data; use of measuring devices; operation of motor vehicles or equipment; determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
