Description
The Principal Consultant will:
- Have expertise in their field with strong technical capability in environmental investigations, assessment, planning and approvals.
- Provide strategic and statutory environmental advice to clients in a variety of sectors, with a focus on coastal and maritime infrastructure works.
- Build upon existing and develop new client relationships to further the BMT environment business.
- Provide technical advice, leadership and mentoring within the national BMT environment team.
Key Responsibilities
2. Serves as a technical specialist in the application of advanced concepts, principles and methods in an assigned area.
3. Gives technical advice to management and business delivery teams and directs or advises on use of equipment or material.
4. Supervises and reviews the work of other consultants.
5. Shares knowledge and acts as mentor within their area of expertise or across the business.
6. Adheres to, and actively promotes, quality, safety and environmental procedures/standards
7. Liaises with clients, potential and current, for the purposes of work generation, service delivery, networking and business development.
9. Project manage a range of projects to scope and within time, cost and quality requirements.
10. Contributing to thought leadership activities through their work and by regularly authoring papers, presenting at events, seminars and conferences, and social media posts. 11. Maintains Chartered Status and Registration of an appropriate and recognised professional body.
12. May undertake specific technical tasks including but not limited to:
12.1. Environmental policies and strategic advice
12.2. Scoping and identification of stakeholders and issues 12.3. Regulatory approvals
12.4. Environmental impact assessments
12.5. Environmental management plans
12.6. Environmental risk assessments, eg using ISO 31000 12.7. Environmental planning and auditing

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Planning, Engineering or other relevant area of study.
- More than 20 years’ experience post-graduation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong technical background in environmental consulting
- Existing client network in environmental policy, assessment and approvals
- Experience working within a multi-site organisation.
- Experience working within the engineering or resources sector.
- Post-graduate qualifications in environmental management or other relevant area of study
- Demonstrated business development skills
- Strong organisation skills with attention to detail.
- Demonstrates initiative and takes a proactive approach to tasks.
- Flexible, team player.
- Willingness for travel across WA, interstate, and internationally, to satisfy the requirements of projects and the position
- Client focused and commercially aware.
