Description
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior Solution Architect within the ITS, IT Development unit.

Please note that this role is offered as three years fixed term contract.
This role is based in Basel, Switzerland; however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
Purpose of the job:
Defines and maintains the architecture strategy and frameworks for the business unit, ensuring alignment with the organisation policies on security, risk, and compliance. Provides technical and architectural leadership, driving innovation, integration, and governance across systems while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders. Evaluates emerging technologies, optimizes platform costs, and contributes to enterprise architecture standards, acting as a trusted advisor on strategic technology matters.
By joining the IT Development team within the ITS group, you will:
Collaborate with senior stakeholders to shape the technological direction of complex, multi-system initiatives, driving innovation and efficiency.
Lead the design and implementation of cutting-edge architectures, ensuring scalability, security, and cost optimization.
Contribute to enterprise-wide standards and governance processes, influencing strategic decisions and fostering cross-functional alignment.
Principal Accountabilities:
Define and maintain architectural strategies, frameworks, and reusable design approaches, ensuring coherence across delivery teams and alignment with enterprise standards.
Lead workshops with senior stakeholders to resolve competing requirements and align solution priorities, communicating risks and trade-offs effectively.
Evaluate and select technologies for major initiatives, ensuring integration strategies align with enterprise roadmaps and interoperability across domains.
Govern and contribute to enterprise architecture standards, driving continuous improvement through lessons learned and active participation in architecture forums.
Oversee data and security architecture, ensuring best practices in data integration, lineage, and secure design patterns.
Provide architectural oversight for multi-team delivery programs, resolving technical conflicts and supporting agile and product-based delivery models.
Optimize platform costs and promote modern capabilities to reduce total cost of ownership while simplifying the application landscape.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields (or equivalent practical experience). Relevant architecture or cloud certifications are a plus.
General Experience: Over 6 to 10 years of substantial work experience in architecture or a related field, demonstrating advanced competence.
Managerial Experience: 1 to 3 years of supervising teams and resources to achieve results within set timeframes.
Advanced expertise in designing architectures, data flow analysis, and system integration to solve complex problems.
Strong stakeholder management skills to align expectations and drive collaboration across teams.
Expertise in data categorization, protection, and conversion, ensuring seamless data exchange and communication.
