Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight for enterprise geospatial platforms and related systems.
- Support architecture design, cloud migration, system upgrades, infrastructure modernization, and operational readiness activities.
- Plan and execute GIS platform upgrades, cloud migrations, system refreshes, disaster recovery exercises, and infrastructure security initiatives.
- Evaluate and recommend technology solutions aligned with applicable technology directions, including cloud adoption, enterprise architecture standards, cybersecurity requirements, secure-by-design frameworks, and modernization of legacy systems.
- Design and support cloud-native and hybrid GIS architectures on AWS, Azure, approved cloud platforms, or equivalent cloud platforms.
- Design GIS integration patterns, including REST APIs, web services, SFTP-based data exchanges, authentication and identity management, and enterprise system integrations.
- Manage geospatial data architectures, including geodatabases, spatial data models, metadata management, data governance, and data lifecycle management.
- Conduct technical assessments, solution reviews, sizing exercises, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting of complex application and infrastructure issues.
- Work with vendors and service providers to manage system implementation, upgrades, support, maintenance, and service delivery.
- Analyze business and technical requirements and develop practical, scalable, and sustainable GIS solutions.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required to support enterprise geospatial platforms, systems, and services.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in technical planning, solution reviews, and architecture discussions.
- Document technical specifications, solution designs, operational procedures, and system documentation.
- Troubleshoot complex spatial data, application, integration, infrastructure, and performance issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, business users, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Provide technical consultation on GIS matters and support decision-making for enterprise geospatial platforms.
- Support capacity building, knowledge transfer, and sustainable operations of GIS platforms and services.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a Technical Lead, GIS Solution Architect, GIS Engineer, or equivalent role involving geospatial systems design, implementation, operations, and modernisation.
- Hands-on experience delivering enterprise GIS projects throughout the full project lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture design, implementation, testing, migration, deployment, and operations support.
- Strong knowledge of Enterprise GIS platforms, preferably Esri ArcGIS Enterprise components including Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Data Store, ArcGIS Web Adaptor, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Dashboards, and ArcGIS Online.
- Experience supporting production-critical GIS platforms with high availability, security, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and performance optimisation requirements.
- Strong understanding of security, compliance, and governance requirements, including risk assessments, security reviews, and operational readiness activities.
- Results-oriented with strong stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage technical teams, senior management, vendors, and business stakeholders effectively.
Technical Skills:
- Enterprise GIS Platforms: ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Data Store, ArcGIS Web Adaptor, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Dashboards, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Pro.
- Cloud and Infrastructure: AWS, Azure, approved cloud platforms, hybrid architectures, infrastructure modernisation, high availability, backup, disaster recovery, and performance optimisation.
- Integration: REST APIs, web services, SFTP-based data exchanges, authentication and identity management, enterprise directory services, IAM, SSO, and API security implementations.
- Databases and Geospatial Data: PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle, geodatabases, spatial data models, metadata management, data governance, and data lifecycle management.
- GIS Standards and Formats: feature services, map services, WMS, WMTS, WFS, GeoJSON, shapefiles, and related geospatial technologies.
- Automation and Scripting: Python, ArcPy, geoprocessing workflows, and GIS automation.
Good to Have:
- ArcGIS Enterprise administration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise on AWS/approved cloud environments.
- Experience in geospatial platform migrations and cloud transformation projects.
- Exposure to enterprise geospatial platforms and data-sharing initiatives.
- Experience managing geospatial products and services used by multiple organisations and external stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Python, ArcPy, geoprocessing workflows, and GIS automation.
- Familiarity with enterprise directory services, IAM, SSO, and API security implementations.
- Understanding of applicable security policies and compliance requirements for spatial data and enterprise systems.
Project Experience:
- Implementation, migration, upgrade, and operational support of enterprise-level GIS platforms.
- Delivery of geospatial platform cloud migration and transformation initiatives.
- Modernisation of GIS infrastructure, including system refreshes, technology upgrades, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Integration of GIS platforms with other enterprise systems, data sources, identity providers, and enterprise systems.
- Support for enterprise geospatial platforms, multi-organisation services, and external stakeholder-facing systems.
