Job Summary:
The Industrial Insulation Metal Mechanic installs insulation and fabricates metal jacketing for industrial piping, ductwork, vessels, and equipment. This role requires the ability to independently measure, lay out, fabricate, and install aluminum and stainless-steel coverings while ensuring quality workmanship, weather protection, and compliance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install insulation on industrial piping, ductwork, vessels, and equipment.
- Measure insulated systems and lay out metal jacketing and fittings.
- Fabricate and install aluminum and stainless-steel jacketing for pipe, duct, and equipment insulation systems.
- Fabricate elbows, gores, transitions, offsets, and other specialty fittings.
- Operate sheet metal equipment, including shears, brakes, rolls, beading machines, and hand tools.
- Install jacketing with proper fit, fastening, sealing, and weatherproofing.
- Fabricate and install removable covers for valves, flanges, instruments, and access points.
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and insulation schedules.
- Plan material usage to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality and compliance with project requirements.
- Follow all site safety procedures, permit requirements, fall protection standards, and PPE requirements.
Qualifications:
- Experience installing industrial insulation and metal jacketing systems.
- Ability to independently measure, lay out, fabricate, and install metal coverings for pipe, duct, and equipment insulation.
- Proficiency fabricating specialty fittings, including elbows, gores, and transitions.
- Knowledge of insulation materials, vapor barriers, and weatherproofing systems.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and field measurements.
- Experience safely operating sheet metal fabrication equipment and hand tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime and travel as needed.
- Industrial maintenance, shutdown, or turnaround experience preferred.
- Ability to work in active industrial environments, including climbing, bending, kneeling, and working from scaffolds or aerial lifts.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Project Locations & Travel:
Projects are located throughout Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Travel to various industrial and construction sites is expected based on project needs.
- Employees must be willing to travel to assigned job sites as needed.
- Per diem/drive-time compensation of $50-$75 per day is provided for projects located one hour or more from the employee's residence, based on project location and travel requirements.
