Executive Product Manager - AI Powered Engineering
- You are a passionate leader with a product-driven mindset
- We are leading in AI ambition within Australia’s largest bank
- Together, we will engineer the future of banking
Do work that matters
Our Group ambition in Technology is bold. We are setting out to become an AI-native bank using AI to transform how we build, operate, secure and modernise technology, and unlocking the capacity to solve ever more complex customer and business problems.
We are just as determined to deliver excellent resilience, setting the benchmark for the reliability and security of the critical infrastructure millions of Australians depend on every day. And we want to be a destination for the best technology talent in the country; a place where exceptional people are drawn by meaningful work, strong leadership, continuous learning and a high-performance culture in which they can thrive.
We are actively involved in the technology community, contributing to education programs, innovation, research, and partnerships that will set Australia up for success as the economy transitions to a more digital future.
AI Powered Engineering is dedicated to working with Commonwealth Bank’s global engineering community to use AI-assisted tools and capabilities in ways that improve the engineering experience and productivity. As we continue our pursuit of AI Ambition, we are shaping the AI developer experience for engineers across the company, bringing AI engineering tools into every stage of the software development lifecycle, from design and coding through to testing, review, deployment and operations.
See yourself in our team
As the Executive Product Manager for AI Powered Engineering, you will work with the General Manager, AI Powered Engineering to execute on the vision and strategy for the AI developer experience at CBA, defining how AI engineering tools are adopted, scaled and embedded across the entire developer lifecycle to lift the productivity, quality and experience of our global engineering community.
In partnership with an Engineering Lead, you will lead multiple cross-functional squads, each led by a Product Owner, and hold accountability for the overall product portfolio, roadmap and outcomes of the function.
You’ll partner with senior leadership across Technology and the business to deeply understand the needs of our engineers, own the strategy that turns those needs into a compelling set of platforms, tools, services and customer experiences and deputise for the General Manager as required, representing AI Powered Engineering at the most senior forums across the Group.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the General Manager, AI Powered Engineering deputising across leadership forums, executive reporting and decision-making, and stepping in to lead the function when required.
Set and own the product strategy and roadmap for the AI developer experience, defining how AI engineering tools are used across the entire developer lifecycle: design, coding, testing, code review, deployment and operations.
Co-lead and coordinate multiple cross-functional squads, each led by a Product Owner, aligning their roadmaps, priorities and delivery to a single portfolio vision and set of outcomes.
Coach, develop and grow Product Owners and their squads, building a high-performing, product-driven leadership team within the function.
Partner with senior leadership across Technology and the broader Group to identify opportunities to embed AI-assisted engineering tools and capabilities, and to drive their adoption and scale across the bank’s global engineering community.
Prioritise across the portfolio backlog, balancing business partner demand, engineering value and long-term sustainability to optimise the engineering experience, productivity and risk profile.
Collaborate with AI researchers, engineers and product managers to remain at the frontier of AI advancements, applying them to solve real engineering challenges.
Partner with HR and the Engineering Practice to embed learning pathways that uplift engineering capability and accelerate effective adoption of AI-assisted tools.
Contribute to executive-level reporting and presentation materials, ensuring clear communication of program outcomes, progress and challenges to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
Be an ambassador for the AI transformation across the bank: sharing knowledge, supporting other teams on their learning journey, and building an open learning culture within the practice.
We are interested in hearing from people who are:
Experienced senior product and technology leaders with a proven track record of owning and scaling technology products, platforms or developer tools used internally or externally within a company.
Exceptional in stakeholder engagement and communication, able to present highly technical updates to diverse groups of tech and non-tech audiences at the most senior levels.
Experienced in leading and developing other leaders, including Product Owners, and managing complex, multi-stakeholder, cross-functional programs.
Deeply knowledgeable about the software development lifecycle and passionate about developer experience, emerging AI technologies and what they can do in banking and fintech.
Customer-obsessed in mindset, always asking “why” and able to determine the unmet needs of engineers and the business.
Adept at leading engineering and product teams that build and scale distributed systems, tools and frameworks in public, private or hybrid cloud environments.
Self-motivated and continuously learning while delivering concrete outcomes — where hustle is essential and “no” isn’t an option.
