JOB SUMMARY:

University of Richmond Career Services seeks a motivated and detail-oriented student to join our team as a marketing communications student assistant. This role will involve working collaboratively to create effective story-driven content that builds engagement and promotes awareness of career services offerings, events and programs. Student employees assist with capturing and editing career development content, interviewing students, staff, and faculty, and brainstorming ideas, content, and strategy for social media.

This job requires a keen awareness of engaging social media content, strict attention to detail, and a high level of accountability. Students can expect around 6-10 hours/week, with a flexible schedule depending on events on campus.

Through this position students will develop core competencies that will better prepare them for careers after graduation. These skills include, but are not limited to: communication, critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, professionalism, & digital technology.

Roles and Responsibilities:

COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Develop editorial calendar, create and schedule brand-aligned content for Career Services’ social media channels, primarily Instagram and LinkedIn

  • Brainstorm strategies for increasing engagement, follower growth, and brand visibility

  • Provide support for various marketing and communications projects as needed

PROGRAM SUPPORT:

  • Assist in the coordination and execution of career-related events, workshops, and programs

  • Provide support during events, such as set-up, check-in, and troubleshooting - including those in evenings and on weekends *as needed

  • Support the collection and analysis of data related to social media engagement, event attendance, and program outcomes

FRONT DESK OPERATIONS

  • Answer phones and greet visitors (students, employer partners, alumni, vendors)

  • Assist students and hiring partners with on-campus events, meeting room reservations, digital technology, and internet access

  • Maintain orderliness and manage supplies in front office areas (lobby, employer lounge, interview rooms, and student prep room)

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to innovate and think creatively

  • Experience creating engaging content for social media

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strict attention to detail

  • Knowledge of industry-standard social media platforms and digital marketing tools

  • Ability to learn and adhere to UR branding guidelines

  • Good organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and meet deadlines

  • Strong writing skills and the ability to create error-free content

  • Comfortable interacting with students, staff, faculty, and community

  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Handshake a plus

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Gain hands-on experience and develop professional skills in social media management, marketing, and customer service


Pay Grade: SP Student 2 (starting rate $14.10)
